Description

Crain Communications is seeking a Manager of Internet Technologies in its Detroit office.  This person will support Crain Communications’ online publishing and interactive technology initiatives by providing enterprise-wide internet technology research, architecture & design support and Project Management.  Provides support with vendor management and handles implementation of interactive technologies and integration with existing content management systems.

 

Job Title: Manager of Internet Technologies

 

Job Functions:

  • Plans, organizes, and manages the functions and processes related to identification, research, design, development, deployment, and support of internet technologies related to Publishing.
  • Collaborates with business and technical stakeholders to assess feasibility, prioritize projects, and develop and implement plans that address requirements with business units.
  • Work with technology vendors for technology and service support
  • Serves as overall project manager for assigned key initiatives

 

Additional Duties:

  • Facilitate open and effective communication within and between the development teams/vendors, the business, and customers both internal and external
  • Provide technical support to the online advertising, online marketing and analytics operations for the publications
  • Monitor trends, review and conduct ongoing research of emerging technologies relevant to the internet/interactive publishing field.
  • Facilitate and promote best practices and knowledge sharing across business units

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • 5+ years experience managing internet websites, preferably in the publishing industry
  • 3+ years IT experience in development, implementation, and maintenance of web-based applications
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science or MIS discipline.
  • Experience as a Project Manager in an Internet/Publishing company is beneficial.
  • Proven experience releasing software projects to market successfully.
  • Strong organizational / project management skills.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate a cross-functional team that includes non-technical people, including senior leadership.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and monitor project schedules and timelines to identify and meet critical milestones.
  • Excellent understanding of resource management and working with managers in a matrix environment.
  • Experience overseeing and managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Ability to understand technical subjects and emerging technologies and relevance to the marketplace.

 

Technical Experience:

  • .NET or Java programming proficiency.
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML/CSS and Javascript.
  • Knowledge of a server side scripting language (ASP, JSP, PHP, etc).
  • Knowledge of database fundamentals.
  • Experience with SAXOTECH (or similar Content  Management System systems).
  • Flash, Online Video/Audio experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
