Detailed Description of Daily Assignment:
-Designs, monitors, tunes, and nurtures the production Website to ensure high availability and performance.
-Provides 24x7 system support of the production website. Acts as subject matter expert for troubleshooting and resolving complex, multi-tier Web problems.
-Supports development and architecture to implement and configure new Middleware and infrastructure required by the application.
-Works closely with platform engineering Matrix teams (including Unix, windows, network, monitoring, storage, db2) to implement and support the systems and middleware. Ultimate owner of the entire technology stack even though administrator-level access to many components is not granted.
-Automates Website functions such as deploying code and configuration, restarting processes, gathering performance metrics, moving files, etc.
-Plans for capacity growth and disaster recovery.
-Configures and manages Middleware configuration following a formal change management process.
-Position requires after-hours work to apply patches and support when the site is at it lowest traffic volume. This will include late nights/early mornings and weekends.
-Other responsibilities include scheduling and coordination of resources (both external and internal) to provide network maintenance, hardware maintenance, software maintenance

Description (Position Purpose):

Specifically, your role in homedepot.com will place you at the center of one of the top 40 retail Websites that is experiencing an exciting growth trajectory. You will be exposed to the latest Web technologies including J2EE, Websphere, Endeca, and numerous industry-leading Web technologies running at large, enterprise scale. You will work with IT teams and business partners to understand strategic initiatives as well as deliver leading-edge online capabilities that also support Home Depot's retail business. You will apply advanced problem-solving techniques and coordinate with other core team members to resolve system issues, maintain complex business logic and identify and implement innovative solutions.

This person is responsible for:

Required Skills:
-Experience supporting the systems operations for a very large scale, 24x7 application (preferably web) running on a Unix platform
-System engineering and administration experience with Web Middleware products such as Websphere, Weblogic, JBoss, ATG, Apache, or Tomcat in a Unix environment (or .NET in a windows environment)
-System engineering and administration experience with Search platforms such as Endeca running on a Linux environment
-Strong systems engineering know-how: must be able to design and build solutions that solve for High Availability, Performance, Capacity, Reliability, Maintainability, and Cost employing a broad range of technologies including Web Middleware, Web Protocols, Networking, Message Oriented Middleware, Operating Systems (Unix and windows), Server Hardware, Storage, Databases, and Business and Systems Monitoring
-Must be a "techie": well versed in and passionate about technology products and solutions
-Experience monitoring and analyzing a high volume (250+ transactions per second) application for capacity and performance bottlenecks and working with development, systems engineering, and other teams to tune.
-Experience with standard support processes such as Configuration and Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management
-Highly capable of building tools and scripts to automate and simplify system operations processes in a Unix environment using Scripting languages or environments such as Korn shell, Perl, etc.
-Experience building and supporting new environments for development, testing, performance, and disaster recovery

Preferred Skills:
-Deep system administration knowledge of Websphere family Middleware such as Websphere Application Server, IBM HTTP Server, ITCAM for Websphere, Websphere MQ, and related products would be a huge plus
-Understanding of J2EE application packaging and deployment to implement and support scripts that automate the build and deployment process using Ant or similar build tool.
-Experience integrating build and deployment scripts with Websphere Application Server 5.1 (and Websphere Commerce Server 5.6.1)
-Experience supporting an eCommerce platform such as ATG or Websphere Commerce Server
-Experience supporting Endeca Search in a Windows environment
-BS in Computer Science

Preferred Qualifications (Technical Skills and Soft Skills):
Extensive experience supporting the system operations of a large scale, 24x7 Website running on a Unix platform
This person needs to be a jack of all trades but highly technical and able to rapidly assimilate new IT knowledge including: Web Middleware, Web Protocols, Java, eCommerce, Networking, Operating Systems (AIX and Linux), Server Hardware, Storage, Databases, Performance, Configuration and Change Management, High Availability, Business and Systems Monitoring, and Incident Management.
System administration experience with Websphere Application Server 5.1, IBM HTTP Server, ITCAM for Websphere, Websphere MQ, and related Middleware in an AIX or Linux environment
System administration knowledge with Endeca 5.x IAP or similar Search and Navigation Platform
Highly capable of building tools and scripts to automate and simplify system operations processes in a Unix environment using Scripting languages or environments such as Korn shell, Perl, etc
Sufficient understanding of J2EE application packaging and deployment to implement and support scripts that automate the build and deployment process using Ant or similar build tool
Experience building and supporting environments for development, testing, performance, and disaster recovery
Experience managing Middleware configuration changes and corresponding lifecycle promotion processes
Experience integrating build and deployment scripts with Websphere Application Server 5.1 (and Websphere Commerce Server 5.6.1) would be a huge plus
Experience supporting a large scale eCommerce website, particularly running Websphere Commerce Server
