Description

This position is responsible for the support of the ISO New England local and wide area networks; to include managing routers, network switches, CSU/DSU equipment, firewall configurations, remote VPN access, storage area networks and network management software.  

 



Experience/Skills

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring/tuning networks for best performance and reliability; recommend changes
  • Performing network system upgrades and assuring the quality of fixes and enhancements
  • Ensuring integrity/security of the ISO’s networks
  • Maintaining network management tools
  • Maintaining/supporting network remote access system (e.g. VPN)
  • Participating in the departmental on-call rotation
  • Configuring and supporting storage area networks and associated technologies
  • Developing/maintaining appropriate skill levels in current networking/security technologies
  • Maintaining proper networking documentation and grow corporate network administration support knowledge base
  • Adhering to ISO New England Policies and Procedures
  • Managing physical layout of network equipment and cabling
  • Monitoring vendor activity to provide continuous systems uptime
  • Coordinate with IT peers on the resolution of cross-functional problems
  • Coordinate system outages and changes with IT Change Management

 

Additional responsibilities for the SENIOR level include

  • Leading teams in the planning, scheduling, coordination, and completion of assignments and projects
  • Providing technical leadership for departmental initiatives
  • Assisting and directing more junior network administrators
  • Provide technical data for internal and external audits
  • Assist with root-cause analyses
  • Assisting with development of Request for Proposals and evaluation of responses and selection
  • Assisting with development of standards and procedures for specifying and maintaining network devices
  • Representing ISO-NE interests at the NERC Telecommunications Working Group
  • Communicating status of project and team’s activities
  • Coordinating with consultants and vendors on project deliverables
  • Supervise the installation of fixes, enhancements, and upgrades to supported systems
  • Collaborating with IT peers on the development of standards and procedures

 

Requirements include:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent education and experience.

  • 4 – 6 years of relevant experience to  include having managed and maintained local and wide-area networks, firewalls, storage area networks, *NIX and Windows operating systems and having developed skills in networking protocols and design. 
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to team well and communicate effectively.
