We have an immediate need for a Network Engineer.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Contract to Hire.

REPORTS TO:
Operations Network Manager.

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Responsible for the configuration and maintenance of network devices in accordance with the plan set forth by the network manager and the vision provided by the network architect.

Ensures monitoring of network Switches and elements, maintenance and operational availability of production network infrastructure; measuring, and adhering to Service Level Agreements for the production network. Must be capable of troubleshooting any outages in the network, This is an on call job, the candidate must be willing to be on call 24x7 as per the prescribed schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
People:
- Interacts internally with network operations management, often involving complex situations including influencing and persuading other senior level managers.
- Takes responsibility when problems or opportunities are identified within the group, and initiates actions that result in high-quality solutions.
- Participates in evaluating engineering talent, and in the hiring process.

Processes:
- Works closely with Operations Managers to define and improve group and engineering level processes.
- Provides the day-to-day monitoring of the networks health.
- Brings forth the need for upgrades in network capacity.
- Prepares and presents status, technical, and management reports as required.
- Responds to any alerts in the system and drives the issue all the way to resolution.

Technology:
- Handles issues escalated by customer support.
- Understands system level architecture and standards, and ensures that subsystem and project level work is consistent with it.
- Participates in the development, evaluation, selection, implementation and maintenance of engineering productivity tools (eg Cisco Works, Rancid, Packet Design, etc).
- Stays abreast of technology developments in area of expertise.

Projects:
- Executes on the configuration and installation of Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Load balancers, VPN concentrators and the like.
- Handles issues escalated by customer support and other groups in the organization.
- Ensures successful execution and delivery of groups projects, and continuous improvement of the groups ability to execute them.
- Reviews progress and evaluates results of technical projects within span of control. Recommends necessary actions based on analysis.

MARGINAL DUTIES:
- Travel may be required from time to time.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- B.S. degree or equivalent in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field is mandatory, with a minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience. Minimum of 2 years of work experience is required for individuals holding an MS or higher degree in one of these fields. Equivalent experience may be substituted for formal education.
- A CCNP certification or similar experience is highly recommended.
- Demonstrated expertise with Cisco IOS is a must.
- Experience with F5, Netscaler, Alteon or other LB vendors.
- Security: ACLs, Checkpoint, Netscreen OS, PIX OS, Tacacs+,Leap,Peap required. IDS experience is a plus.
- Troubleshooting: Ethereal, snoop, tcpdump, etherpeek, tcptrace etc.
- Understanding of IPSEC and other VPN technologies such as L2TP, DVPN, GRE is a must.
- Must be conversant with Layer 3 control layer: BGP, RIPv2, EIGRP, and OSPF, route maps etc. Familiarity with Zebra/Quagga is a plus.
- Must be conversant with Redundancy and resilience: HSRP, VRRP, STP.
- Extensive experience in network engineering process.
- Strong working knowledge of Configuration Management tools and processes (Rancid, Voyence, Device Authority, Cisco works).
