Position Description:
The Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting and documentation of clients Unified Communications and Unified Contact Center Enterprise Network using proven network best practices and principles. They may be asked to provide technical training and staff mentoring where appropriate and should strive to develop an understanding of the IT Network Services departments technical roadmap. They will contribute to the development of enterprise-wide standards, processes, methodologies, and the long term IT strategic roadmap around Unified Communications and Unified Contact Center Enterprise network best practices and principles.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs the following functions with limited supervision, engaging Manager/Supervisor or designated lead when needed to review and provide recommendations or to escalate problems.
  • Meet with appropriate IT and Business Units to determine requirements for the new client Unified Contact Center Enterprise network, as well as become familiar with project goals and expected outcomes.
  • Participate in and take the lead in technical discussions involving the network design for the client Unified Communications and Unified Contact Center Enterprise network.
  • Design and document outcomes from technical discussions including:
    • Physical Network Architecture diagrams, which are developed in Visio, depicting the new client Unified Contact Center Enterprise physical network infrastructure, as well as ancillary and corporate systems interfacing to this network.
    • Virtual Network Architecture diagrams, which are developed in Visio, depicting the new client Unified Contact Center Enterprise virtual network infrastructure, as well as ancillary and corporate systems interfacing to this network.
    • Application requirements to include TCP/UDP ports, processes, and bandwidth requirements if known, including any virtual interfaces utilizing this network between systems.
  • Develop and document the configuration details necessary to support the installation of the network and network management systems, including rack layouts and patch cable installation details.
  • Once implemented, provide high quality technical knowledge and consulting services to internal IT peer groups to include the analysis of system and network performance to identify deficiencies and recommend solutions for mitigation.
  • Understand and adhere to current Corporate and IT standards, policies and processes (change control, computer security, user access, system use, etc.).
  • Complete assignments with strict attention to detail, timeline and budget.
  • Develop an understanding of business issues and goals in order to provide appropriate technical solutions.
  • Maintain and enhance proficiency with tools and technologies used by the client Network Services team.
  • Provide mentoring and training as the opportunities arise.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience in a related discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on network engineering with an emphasis on Unified Communications and Unified Contact Center Enterprise network design and implementation
  • Propose and manage small to medium-sized projects involving multiple IT disciplines
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Writing purchase justifications
  • Training users in complex topics
  • Advanced skills working with networking topologies focused on enhanced Unified Communication configurations, routing and switching protocols, wireless networks, Firewalls, remote access VPNs, network management software and cable plant solutions using Cisco Systems products
  • Advanced skills working with the following Cisco Unified Communication solutions:
    -Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Call Manager)
    -Cisco Unity
    -Cisco Unified Contact Center Enterprise
    -Cisco Unified E-Mail Interaction Manager
    -Cisco Agent Desktop
    -Cisco AS5400 Universal Gateways
    -Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony
    -Cisco Unified Customer Voice Portal
    -Cisco Unified Operations Manager
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices relating to Unified Communications network design, security strategy and implementation
  • DNS, DHCP, ARP, NAT and Proxy services
  • Quickly troubleshoot and resolve complex problems
  • Documented training or professional certifications such as: CCIE, CISSP and etc
  • Making presentations to an internal audience
  • Interacting positively with upper management
