Description
The Network Test Engineer works with the Software Quality Assurance team and Development team supporting the product lifecycle through network appliance testing, design review, software analysis, test case design and authoring, defect identification, logging and tracking, and task tracking. Windows Operating Systems maintenance and administration, intermediate or advanced networking skills, high attention to detail, strong documentation skills, effective oral and written communication skills and software defect detection skills. These duties may be performed individually, as part of a team or in cooperation with customers. Design and implement Layer 2/3/7 network protocol conformance tests. Author test cases, plans and data. Identify risks in requirements and technical designs and provide feedback to developers and management. Train junior testing staff. Perform load, performance and stress tests on network appliances and provide regular benchmarking reports. Test and compare the behavior of network appliances and software to specifications and documentation. Identify, analyze, and document defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions, outputs, online screens and content. Execute automated test scripts using software testing programs. Install, maintain, and use software testing programs. Review computer logs and reports to identify program processing errors. Conduct compatibility tests with other software programs, hardware, multiple operating systems, and network environments.

Experience/Skills
This position requires the knowledge and skills normally acquired through the successful completion of a BS degree in Computer Science.Requires 3 or more years of QA, networking or software development experience.Requires deep knowledge of Ethernet, IP, TCP, switching and routing. Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.Requires familiarity with the Windows operating system. Unix skills are a plus.Smart bits testing equipment experience desired. Network load testing methodology experience desired.. Protocol conformance testing methodology desired.Prior experience with Perl, Python and/or TCL is helpful.
