Position Title: Oracle DBA
Date Opened: April 17, 2008

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will keep the project's production database available and functional for users during normal business hours.
To do so, he/she must monitor system resource utilization regularly, and respond appropriately when resource limits are being reached.
The candidate must also monitor application processes and nightly batch jobs to ensure they complete successfully.
The candidate must troubleshoot problems when the processes do not finish successfully.
The candidate must be experienced with Oracle backup and recovery techniques using RMAN and Oracle Enterprise Manager jobs.
The DBA is required to have prior production experience with online Oracle backups, and recovery of mission critical databases from media in the event of failure.
The candidate should be able to communicate with the Unix System Administrator to identify and troubleshoot operating system or hardware faults and should have experience with writing Unix Shell scripts to support their tasks.
The DBA will also be asked to support the development team by identifying and tuning inefficient SQL, deploying database builds, and cloning databases for test and development purposes.
Because the DBA supports a production environment, after-hours work is required for maintenance of the production system.
Assists, defines, and/or oversees database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation.
Provides technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment.
Develops applications to help solve database solutions to business problems; data architectures; database management system facilities and capabilities; and the operation and tuning of databases.
Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods; access time; batch processes; device allocation; validation checks; organization; protection and security; documentation; and statistical methods.
Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, and integration of systems through database design.
Maintains and documents shell scripts and batch processes.
Ensures that documentation is complete and up-to-date.
Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 6-9 years of experience with Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Systems Engineering

REQUIRED SKILLS: Oracle and UNIX Production environment experience.df-tc
