BASIC FUNCTION
Conceptualize, develop, implement and provide design and technical support for electrical and electronic systems and products.
Primary focus will be on developing technical solutions and specifications for electrical motors, stators, alternators and actuators associated with Kohler engine designs.
Investigate, update and maintain standards relative to product test methods and regulatory requirements for these systems.
Create product specifications for and work with suppliers to meet these specifications.
Interface with internal customers (engineering, purchasing and applications) as well as external customers (suppliers, customers and users) to support these products.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and optimize current small engine electromagnetic products. Participate in cost reduction product solutions.
Assist with development and design of new electromagnetic component for small engine products. Development tasks may include performance simulation with FEA tools and/or SPICE programs as well as product performance evaluation testing.
Interface with other electrical/electronic system engineers to integrate specific electromagnetic components as part of a system solution.
Evaluate existing test methods to ascertain weaknesses and limitations in function, reliability or safety. Create, propose, implement and document solutions.
Create and interpret specifications for electromagnetic components and work with suppliers to properly validate end product to these specifications
Create and update design guidelines for implementation of electromagnetic devices on small engine designs.
Participate in product design and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) reviews
Assist with analysis and root cause determination for failed electromagnetic systems or components.
Provide technical support to all engineering product groups, production and reliability groups, engine application and service groups and engine purchasing group
Maintain knowledge base of related electromagnetic technologies for the small engine market. Recommend emerging methods when efficient and cost appropriate
Direct the work of designers and technicians
Maintain project records
Work to develop individual goals/objectives to support the department goals through the use of the Maximizing Performance Appraisal Process
Personally demonstrate and drive the Kohler Core Competencies

Supervisory:
Reports to New Products Design and Development Staff Engineer - Electronics
Provides technical direction for designers and technicians

Organizational:
Frequent contact with Engine Engineering Staff and Engine Test Lab Associates
Frequent contact with Manufacturing Engineering and Product Reliability
Frequent contact with Engine Application and Service Staff
Frequent contact with Engine Purchasing
Occasional contact with Marketing and Sales

Frequency contact with OEM business and technical associates
Occasional contact with Kohler engine distributors and service shops
Occasional contact with professional, technical and industry organization associates

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
(15 years experience in motors or electromagnetic system designs an acceptable alternative to a degree.)

Minimum five years experience with design and application of engine electrical/electronic systems and components. Background or work with starter motors, alternators, stators digital linear actuators, solenoids and associated systems is preferred.

FEA knowledge of simulation tools for electromagnetic systems is desirable. Experience in SPICE circuit simulation and work with circuit board layout software is preferred.

Experience in electrical/electronic component and system production processes considered a plus.df-tc
