Packaging Engineer

Seeking a Packaging Engineer who will be responsible for developing packaging for new products, obtaining cost savings on current packaging, and assisting with package quality issues. Maintains specification system for packages, obtain quotes on new packages, and work with purchasing to obtain products or alternative products for packaging. Research new product packaging ideas and keep up with industry's innovative packaging designs.

What you will be doing:
~ Develop packaging for new products. Understand what is wanted, verify product will be packaged correctly, and work with vendors to verify they are using the correct product packaging.
~ Obtain quotes from suppliers and negotiate pricing to produce cost savings on current packaging. Obtain products for packaging that are more cost effective than previous products.
~ Assist with quality issues on packaging. Analyze package and solve any problems, observe product packaging and solve any discrepancies. Work with product managers to resolve packaging problems and with marketing communications to resolve print quality.
~ Maintain specification system for packaging specifications. Compile information on each individual package and compile items into a centralized source in the computer.
~ Obtain quotes on new packaging related items and tooling. Negotiate with suppliers to ensure the lowest costs on each item or tool purchased.
~ Work with purchasing to obtain products or alternative products. Ensure products arrive in time for production packaging need so that the line is not shut down and orders are not missed. Obtain alternative packaging if needed to ensure no down time in production.
~ Research new package ideas, displays, and merchandising. Review publications, Internet, trade shows, and retailers to obtain new ideas for packaging, displays, and product merchandising. Keep current with what is new in the industry.
~ Attend product managers meeting and give information on packaging services. Discuss new ideas for packaging, ability to make package, costs, and any other questions related to product packaging.
~ Submit packaging information to marketing communications for artwork development. Submit template, print process, budget, and answer any set-up questions.
~ Set up testing on packages. Contact suppliers to test packages, analyze testing data, and make any necessary decisions based on testing outcomes.
~ Complete artwork for one color jobs. Take logos and apply to packaging template, send to marketing communication for approval and submit to supplier for proofs.
~ Consolidate stock keeping units and liquidate excess packaging. Find ways to use old packaging by altering or placing new labels over existing package.

An ideal LOCAL candidate will have:
~ Bachelor degree is required
~ 3 years related package engineering experience
~ AutoCAD, Cape, Adobe Illustrator, and Oracle a plus
~ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel,
~ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are a must
