Product Engineer 6

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Apply engineering skills to drive cost of products lower. Focus on electrical and architectural aspects of design at board and system levels. Apply business, test, and supply chain knowledge to drive strategies which lower cost. Use Design for Cost principles in advising product groups. Become expert on and review component cost. Work with Design Engineering and Operations on projects to lower overall product cost. Do minor to moderate redesign or alternative design and program manage these activities. Provide first point of contact with product groups. Create and document a body of knowledge in design for low cost that can be leveraged by other groups.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
Design experience on low cost products, preferably high volume PCs. Digital design, board design, signal integrity, networking, I/O, processor, memory, graphics, EMI, timing. Broad best in class component pricing knowledge. Business understanding of what drives cost at each step of the supply chain. Web page creation, UNIX scripting, C, C++, Perl, Java.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Recent board design experience through volume production in a cost sensitive area. Computer architecture. ASIC and system design experience. Schematic entry and design analysis/verification experience. Strong analysis and communication skills. Program management. Product cost knowledge. Savings identification analysis. ROI analysis.
