The Project Leader role can increase in scale and responsibilities depending on the contributions from the Functional Team Members and whether or not the Project Leader is distracted by having to also perform the project management processes. Ideally the project management aspects are “bolt-on” support functions to assist the Project Leader in guiding the team and project. The results-oriented business functions of a Project Leader and the value-added elements of Project Management altogether bring a balance of skills highly valuable to this organization. The Project Leader will hire and/or assign Project Leaders as needed, or as needed for growth, based upon these characteristics, and increased success on mission-critical initiatives will result. Drive the proactive identification and resolution of problems throughout the project’s life and describe the specifics of these activities. Pursue all activities that ensure the success of projects. A Project Leader who aspires to a Project Management career, to provide planning and control facilitation in support of multiple projects.

We are seeking a Project Leader of a software development team, to take the functional and technical specifications, lay out project plans, align resources to meet the business goals of stakeholders, track projects and metrics, keep status reports up-to-date, find gaps, bring things together and make development things happen on time. Work closely with the Chief Architect, Business Stakeholders on requirements, software applications feature sets, lead developers, internal development staff, data architects, data modelers, external integrators, and some remote development team members all using Waterfall and Agile methodologies. This is a smaller company with a new development project. This entrepreneurial company is evolving, moving fast and growing. 12-15 developers on this team, and Project Managers added when or if necessary.


General technical knowledge of multiple functions that exist within the project, including the lack of bias for any one participating function. The ability to assemble and interrelate deliverables from all functions. Strategic understanding of the project’s relevance and the ability to appropriately negotiate course corrections with outside stakeholders. Drafting of business cases and justification for scope, resource and expense requests. Troubleshooting of problems and issues, within and across functions. Vendor sourcing, evaluation and selection. Management of Vendors with unique skills, knowledge, or that provide necessary resources to the project. Interpersonal skills to motivate and support team member activity. Process knowledge to support the analysis and documentation of business process, including process flows, job descriptions, data flow, process metrics and process redesign/improvement techniques. Facilitation of decision-making among stakeholders. Ability to set up and facilitate cross-functional team meetings. Risk diagnosis and analysis. Creation of reporting and presentation to management and stakeholders on project decisions, design, results, and forecasts. Sufficient experience with similar scale projects to be able to proactively discern challenges and needs. Innate sense on how to break the project into sub-deliverables and phases to right-size the organization’s ability to absorb the change. Understanding and drive to facilitate early “proof-of-concept” and testing of project components to reduce risk of technical failure and advance “de-bugging” of solutions. Drafting of requirements, use cases and test scripts to support development and quality assurance. Coordination of the development and delivery of appropriate training in quality training environments. General knowledge and ability of change management disciplines, including internal marketing, communication and user acceptance process. Reward and recognition for accomplishment and successes. We are seeking a “facilitator or traffic cop” to guide the project and interface upwardly to guide and shape success, with business executives and/or stake holders. Someone with general business and leadership skills, business support functions experience, who can take on more business ownership of the project’s outcome or results.

Prefer knowledge of the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and has experience applying PMI BMBOK to project planning and control. A Project Leader experienced in the development and maintenance of network-based plans that contain all necessary scope and are clearly assign plans to accountable individuals.

Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. PMI PMP preferred. We are seeking 8-12 years of information technology experience with the most recent experience being project leadership and project management of enterprise software applications development (financial applications using transactions preferred; EDI or BizTalk or BizTalk Orchestration preferred) including large enterprise IT project management. We require experience creating development project plans, leading development teams and vendors, tracking progress, gap analysis and status reporting. We seek experienced Project Leaders with Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies, an entrepreneurial spirit, preferably experience from a smaller, more dynamic, fast-paced development environments or companies, where things evolved or team growth was experienced. Significant experience in managing many aspects of a large-scale, enterprise IT project; great communications skills; and the person must have the ability to work with many constituencies including IT, consultants, business-side, executives, outside integrators and remote developers or vendors.df-tc
