Description
SOFTWARE PROJECT MANAGER

Responsibilities include both project oversight and individual technical contributions. Project oversight responsibilities represent 80% of the job functions and includes resource leveling, technical progress against schedule, monthly project reporting, interfacing with marketing functions to collect and/or define requirements, software process compliance, and overall quality and completeness of software features delivered to customers. Individual technical contributions represent 20% of the job function contributing directly to the development of technical capabilities in the software products.
The position has a high level of technical and product knowledge and is able to operate unsupervised across multiple environments.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Daily coordination of resources and tasks to ensure adequate progress against plan.

Daily assessment of actual and potential project risks along with the development of effective resolutions.

Working with executive and technical management to interpret business requirements and recommend practical solutions.

Completion of user requirements and technical specifications for individual software features under management.

Weekly status reports and monthly project reporting to accurately describe the state of project development.

Providing technical guidance and leadership to the development organization.

Writing internal and external documentation and technical specifications to support the software development process.
Ensuring development process compliance by scheduling and holding requirements reviews and code reviews.

The successful candidate may be assigned to lead a major project, a series of concurrent projects and/or ongoing maintenance of software systems and must have the ability to balance a variety of interests and competing needs. Negotiation is an every day task. He or she will be expected to regularly communicate with clients, executive management, and other stakeholders as well as with key members of the project. Establishment of comprehensive project plans following best practices in project management, including project charters, monthly management cost and schedule reports, and risk management plans is required. The candidate will manage projects to deliver important capabilities to commercial customers for both of the company's products, previous experience working with Optics is a requirement-
The successful candidate will be required to quickly learn company processes, mainly documented (and some undocumented) and quickly learn company product markets, customer applications, customer expectations, and company software architecture.
They must quickly develop knowledge of the technical resources available and interface with the relevant groups within the company as required.

Experience/Skills
Requirements of the position:

Proven understanding of project management tools and techniques with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of technical project management experience.

Demonstrated team building and collaboration skills to develop customer focused objectives among various stakeholders.

Effective verbal and written communication with technical and non-technical audiences including senior management.

Bachelor degree, or equivalent, in Optics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience in problem determination with the ability to solve problems quickly and accurately.

Demonstrated skills in software design using UML and development of software functional specifications.

Strong foundation in software engineering practices and demonstrated experience in both traditional software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.

Demonstrated track record of achieving software process quality at the SEI/CMM Level 2 or higher.

4 years background in large-scale technical software development (i.e. CAD, CAE, or similar).




Other desired skills:
Project Management in the full project life cycle in SDLC, Optics exp. CAD, CAE, or similar software.
