Posted: May 29, 2008 Responsibilities

* Develop complete protection schemes for industrial, balance of plant, and utility applications including one-lines, three-lines, DC schematics, and relay settings. Work with a design team to develop panel and interconnect wiring as well as panel layouts/elevations.

* Expected to provide performance based and economic evaluations, selection, application, settings, operational analysis, and maintenance practices of protection schemes and devices. Evaluates the interoperability, control features, and communication/protocol aspects of protective relays. Provides technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff in order to develop turnkey system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems. Required to perform power system load flow studies, fault studies, and transient studies.

* Further responsibilities include leading the effort for development of bids and proposals. Proposal work includes reviewing the technical specification, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing design on drawing requirements, and the development of technical responses and cost estimates for the proposed projects.

* Required to train end-users on the theory, operational use, and maintenance of integrated protection and control systems.
Qualifications

* Must have a BSEE. Five (5) years minimum experience in system protection schemes, relay selection, settings development, operational analysis, communication systems and maintenance practices for transmission, distribution, and generation protection applications.

* Minimum of 3 years of extensive experience in protective relaying coordination and practices. Good understanding of circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt devices, and other methods/devices used in the control of power flow, detection and isolation of power system faults. Knowledgeable in the latest technology, communications/protocol, and techniques used in the system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems. Good understanding of safety and operating practices common to utility substations, transmission, and generation facilities.

* Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in protective relaying applications and analysis.

* PE license in United States.

* Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, and CSA standards.

* Minimum of 3 years of application experience with GE and SEL relays.

* Minimum of 3 years of SCADA or Substation Physical design experience.

* Minimum of 3 years of P&C field testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience.

* Minimum of 3 years of Project Management experience.

* Minimum of 3 years of experience in motor starting studies & applications.

* Application and protection of series capacitor banks

* MSEE in power systems with emphasis on faulted power systems and protective relaying.

* Previous experience in utility protection and control design.

* Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Must be able to lead and be accountable for control designers to deliver a high quality product on time and under budget.
General

*Willingness to travel (15% - 25% typical). Travel, including international, required supervising or taking part in meetings and on-site commissioning tests for customer installations.
