Description
Our client in the DTC is looking for a QA Engineer for a 6+ month contract (possible contract-to-hire) opportunity. Details are listed below. Job Summary / Purpose The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for the functional quality of technology releases for all corporate projects and for implementing industry-standard QA processes across portfolio companies. Essential Job Functions · Create and roll out an industry-standard quality assurance process and deliverables across portfolio companies. · Create and execute detailed test cases, test checklists, and plans that fully exercise all requirements and regress all impacted systems. · Identify and write unambiguous defects. · Maintain a cohesive and up-to-date list of defects for each project and platform by vetting, validating, and de-duplicating all defects identified by team members. · Schedule and run defect triage meetings with appropriate stakeholders to review and prioritize known defects. · Create reports that effectively communicate the overall quality and stability of the system under test, including a release readiness report with a recommendation for the go/no-go decision. · Contribute to production deployment plans and complete post-deployment testing. · Minimize development iterations/builds by targeting high risk areas of the system. · Contribute to project plans and provide test estimates. Evaluation Criteria · No more than one high-priority defect discovered in production (post-release) per project. · Minimal to no bugs found in the last week of a project’s life cycle for features and functionality available in earlier code drops.

Experience/Skills
Core Quality Assurance Skills: · Test cases—Ability to write and execute detailed test cases that exercise all aspects of the system under test. · Defect writing—Ability to write clear and reproducible defects that describe deviations from expected behavior. Ability to distinguish defects from enhancement requests. · Root cause analysis—Ability to proactively explore anomalies in the system under test to find possible root causes of defects as opposed to symptoms. · Process—Knowledge of and experience with process/development life cycles, such as the Rational Unified Process. Detailed knowledge of industry-standard quality assurance practices. · Risk management—Keen understanding of how QA processes address project risk and the ability to offer creative solutions when contentions between schedule, resources and scope shorten the testing cycle. General Management Skills: · Communication—Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff. Good presentation and negotiation skills. · Independent—Works well with minimal supervision. · Time management—Ability to work on several projects at once and to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-driven environment. · Detail-oriented—Ability to work at a detailed level while maintaining and retaining the 'big picture' of the overall system quality. · Problem-solving—Provides good, common sense approaches to problems. · Planning—Ability to break down a project into components and tasks, recognition of dependencies. Technical Skills: · Defect Management—Experience using defect management tools. Experience selecting and rolling out a tool to an organization (preferred). · MS Office Tools—Enough knowledge to be productive in the use of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint · Architecture—Basic knowledge of client-server, web-based, and service/API-based architectures, especially as they apply to gray box testing techniques. · Test Automation—Experience automating test scripts in a test automation tool (preferred). · Programming—Hands-on programming experience (preferred). Ability to use basic programming tools to generate and analyze test data. · Configuration management—experience with configuration management tools (preferred) Experience: · Bachelor degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or applicable work experience in the software industry. · 2+ years experience in commercial software development environment as a contributor in quality assurance, preferably with experience in testing data-driven applications such as search engines or content repositories.
