Description
Robert Half Technology has an immediate opening for a Red Hat Linux/Unix Administrator for a client of ours in Baltimore, MD.

The Red Hat Administrator will develop, implement, and deliver IT solutions to the business. The Red Hat Systems Engineer will be responsible for handling escalations and problem resolutions, perform project management for system roll-outs and be the primary resource for projects involving Linux/UNIX systems.

• Configure, install, and manage different flavors of UNIX & Linux systems: IBM RS/6000 and Red Hat Linux.

• Utilize monitoring tools to proactively identify problems with systems, applications, and networks.

• Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery and implement preventative measures.

• Perform proactive capacity planning reviews and provide updates to the Systems Manager.

• Provide level 3 technical support. Coordinate and facilitate activities with vendors in order to provide resolution.

• Maintain and improve system availability requirements.• Ensure systems adhere to IT security policies.

• Review, recommend, and implement new technologies that are aligned with business goals and objectives.

• Assist in the budgeting and project planning process.

Experience/Skills
Red Hat Linux Administrator - Requirements

• 2+ years of hands on experience with Red Hat systems.

• Troubleshooting and configuring software applications - Java, PHP, Perl, Apache, etc...

• Experience working with enterprise class arrays such as EMC DMX, HP XP and Hitachi USP.

• The ability to develop UNIX shell scripts, modify kernel for performance tuning, and report monthly metric and measurement reports.

• Must be familiar with SAN concepts, DNS, NFS, SAMBA, NIS, TCP/IP networks, HP Jet direct printing and general troubleshooting.
