Robert Half Technology is seeking a Release Manager to join the Business Applications group of an International Education Firm located in Downtown Baltimore..

The Release Management position is seen as a fundamental role in assuring the success of these plans by focusing on change management and system configuration which is a critical part of our 24 X 7 operations.

Duties include:

  • Work closely with project managers, system administrators, and development teams during the development, test, and launch phases of the software development life cycle to configure and release application/web site code into QA and Production environments.
  • Review functional and design specifications.
  • Track application configuration through Development, QA, and Production environments.
  • Manage release schedules and coordinate releases for multiple applications in Windows, UNIX, and Linux environments.
  • Manage Surround SCM source code control system.
  • Manage scheduled jobs using ActiveBatch
  • Assist IT Engineers/Administrators to troubleshoot issues during and after launches
  • Attend change control meetings and initiate follow-up actions when appropriate.
  • Perform root cause analysis, practice risk mitigation, and moderate conversations between multiple stakeholders.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives related to the Enterprise Release Management process.
  • Engage applications not previously under Release Management, and establish appropriate release processes for such applications.

    Experience/Skills
    Candidates must meet the requirements below to be considered for position.

    Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in software development project management, release management, or other process management experience.
  • 1 or more years experience with an enterprise source code management tool.
  • Experience using ActiveBatch.
  • Experience with test plans, including automation.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong XML, HTML and SQL experience.
  • Experience with Datatel Colleague or other Unidata or Pick application a plus.
  • Capacity for attending to details.
    • Ideal candidates will have:

  • Bachelors with emphasis on CS, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise using Surround SCM 2 or higher.
  • Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and Web Services.
  • Strong Windows background with some Unix.
  • Experience with defect tracking systems and other software life cycle management tools.
