Research Data Engineer/Architect - Bioinformatics (aka Manager, Engineering)

Job Summary

*Assist the Bioinformatics Advanced Research Computing (ARC) group within Discovery Research in designing, engineering, and administering a high performance technical computing and storage environment used to support ongoing research for Discovery and Therapeutic Areas. Specifically, the candidate will be tasked with the following:

*Design, maintain, and administer the large SAN/NAS/iSCSI storage and data environment on Red Hat Linux and MS Windows systems. Administer backups of storage systems.

*Provide advanced data and technical support for compute cluster supporting HPC within Discovery.

*Work with developers, vendors, and scientific community to investigate and implement information technology and systems to support enterprise Biological Technologies/Bioinformatics research.

*Work closely with Bioinformatics, Scientists, and partners to achieve goals.

*Provide primary interface, coordination, and leadership to externally sourced resources and functions.

Job Responsibilities

Architect and administer data environment to include but not limited to Storage Area Network (SAN). Administer fabric, zoning, LUN and volume management, etc.

Assist with technical support for Advanced Research Computing environment.

Architect and administer backup systems – monitor, troubleshoot, prepare tapes for offsite shipment, prepare reports, etc

Research, investigate, and implement if required new technology and systems to support departmental goals.

Provide primary interface, coordination, and leadership to externally sourced resources and functions.

Basic Qualifications

At least a Bachelors Degree, preferably in a Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or other related discipline.

A minimum of 4 years of relevant software and hardware network experience including Storage Area Networking (SAN),

Experience managing EMC storage arrays in a multi-fabric Enterprise Level system including work with Storage Area Networking (SAN) technologies, monitoring and troubleshooting disk and file system performance issues, storage provisioning, LUN management, volume management, zoning, and performance management, Fiber Channel networks, EMC disk arrays, EMC Legato backup systems, Linux and Windows operating systems and open source systems.

Specific experience with EMC Navisphere and Celerra Manager, STK Fiber Channel tape libraries and EMC virtual tape libraries, CLARiiON CX700 and CX3 series arrays, EMC Centera CAS, EMC CDL, EMC Celerra NAS, EMC/Brocade Fiber Channel switches is ideal.
