Description
Works under the direction of EOE senior and executive management to execute the creative development process for EOE scripted properties and entertainment programming. Responsible for development, oversight and management of assigned EOE unscripted productions and documentaries. This individual will be the focal point and coordinate as necessary with internal ESPN departments and divisions of TWDC as well as applicable external entities to enhance communication, maximize ratings and profitability as well as ensure production and storytelling quality for assigned EOE properties. Works as a member of the EOE development team to identify topics and stories for development as scripted series or movies. Evaluates pitches from internal and external parties on ideas for scripted and unscripted concepts and programs, reviews submitted proposals, spec scripts and existing scripts and makes recommendations for course of action to EOE senior management. Evaluates, identifies and makes recommendations on hiring of appropriate production company and/or Executive Producer for topics and story ideas selected by EOE for scripted development. Determines necessary source material (e.g. individual life rights, books, magazines, newspaper articles, public record, other bodies of work) required for the development and production of each assigned scripted property. Provides necessary information and consultation to the Sr. Director, Program and Event Operations and Asst. Director, Business Affairs, EOE, for the negotiation and acquisition of applicable source material. Collaborates with EOE senior management and the assigned scripted property's Executive Producer to determine the story description and creative direction for each scripted topic and to help identify, interview, evaluate and ultimately hire the appropriate writer(s) for each assigned scripted property.

Monitors the various script writing process steps from outlines to drafts to rewrites to final script. Obtains input and approvals as required from EOE senior management and in conjunction with the Executive Producer provides notes to the writer(s). Prepares all necessary material to make recommendation presentations to EOE and ESPN executive management requesting "green light" approval to move from development to production phase. Once green light has been received, works in conjunction with the Executive Producer to identify potential director and lead actor(s) for approval by EOE senior management. Works in conjunction with EOE program planning to identify potential airdates for assigned EOE properties. Works with the Sr. Director Program and Event Operations, EOE to build content and sponsorship packages to maximize revenue. Provides finance all necessary information to prepare a P&L and BOD Memo when necessary for assigned projects. Collaborates with EOE PPS, ESPN Consumer Marketing and ESPN Communications to develop the most effective and efficient promotional and public relations strategies for assigned projects. Works with ESPN Enterprises to identify DVD partner, collaborate on DVD product and explore other ancillary product revenue opportunities. Works with internal divisions and potential outside companies to identify and determine possible revenue streams from international distribution and other non-traditional distribution outlets. Informs programming department colleagues of assigned EOE projects in development and works as necessary with appropriate programming individuals to manage relationships with any outside ESPN programming partners as required. Performs all functions and responsibilities of a traditional programming director for assigned unscripted projects and specials under the EOE umbrella.

College degree or the equivalent, with 6-8 years of progressive experience in television programming and production. Knowledge of sports essential; background in scripted dramatic programming at a studio, production company or network level strongly preferred.df-tc
