Job Title: Senior Sustaining Electronic Engineer
Location: Irvine, CA
Department: Research and Development
Reports to: Engineering Services Manager
Status: Exempt

Position Description
Researches, plans, redesign, sustain and develop electronic circuitry for product migration. Reviews and evaluates each individual product for obsolescence and opportunities to enhance reliability, lower cost and improve manufacturability. Selection from the series will be chosen that provides the best benefit to the company. The design activity includes tradeoffs with software and certification partners, creation of design specifications, component selection, schematic capture and related documentation, coordination with PCB design layout and proto fabrication, testing and support. Determines redesign approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Modifies designs and evaluates electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry and electronic assemblies for electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production. Participates in product technical support to resolve customer and production problems related to product performance. May also review vendor capability to support product development.

Knowledge
Experienced professional with full understanding of analog, digital and microprocessor circuit designs. Experienced with computer aided design tools and applications such as VHDL, OrCAD or equivalent, Spice and Microsoft Office and standard test equipment. Capable of resolving a wide range of issues in creative ways and recognizing trade-offs in cost and function performance.

Job Complexity
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Accountable for major assignments including schedules, costs and project direction.

Supervision
Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. May act as team leader of a defined project.

Education
Bachelorâ??s degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline.

Experience
Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
