POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Systems Engineer will work on a project team supporting a major Federal Government Agency in designing, installing, testing and implementing a new Campus/Local Area Network (C/LAN) segment to protect government data. Candidate must have operational experience managing a Microsoft Exchange 2003 platform and knowledge and experience with Microsoft Exchange 2007 are a plus. Significant knowledge and experience working with VMWare technologies and Microsoft Active Directory is required. A technical writing background working in Information Technology with a well-based knowledge of related functions and disciplines is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field. Industry certifications highly desirable. MCSE and CCNA certifications preferred.
Experience: Must have ten (10 ) to fifteen (15) + years experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Must have experience with VMWare and/or Citrix Metaframe, Cisco IOS Routers, Cisco ASA Firewalls, Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 server, Microsoft Exchange 2003/2007 server, Blackberry services and secure remote access solutions.
Required Skills:
This candidate must possess a high degree of technical expertise in the areas of Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Microsoft Exchange 2007, Microsoft Active Directory and VMWare technology. Sound experience in LAN/WAN, infrastructure engineering and network architecture to include designing, implementing, upgrading and administrating, Active Directory, Windows desktops, Windows 2003/2008 server, Microsoft Exchange 2003/2007 server, Ci SCO routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN devices and VMWare and/or Citrix Metaframe virtual desktop and Servers
Must have an expert understanding of the TCP/IP stack and a minimum of 3-5 years experience supporting LAN and WAN networks with hosts running Windows XP, Windows Server 2003/2008 and Microsoft Exchange 2003/2007.
Must have a strong understanding of application transport and network infrastructure protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP, IP Video and Microsoft AD) and their relationship to end-user applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required including experience at developing IT support process and procedures documentation.
The successful candidate will demonstrate self-initiative, be well organized and be able to operate without supervision. Must have strong time management, multi-tasking, organization and administrative skills and must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office Products specifically Visio, Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Experience coordinating and implementing security and system patches on network devices including workstations and Servers and setting up user accounts, permissions and passwords.
Experience managing standard desktop and laptop images according to Federal agency guidelines.
The successful candidate will be an active member of the Change Control Board and provide initial drafts of changes to be presented in Change Control Board meetings.
Must have excellent problem solving skills and a solid understanding of how to troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues that involve firewalls, routers, network applications, and WAN circuits (T-1, T-3, OC-3, ISDN, HDLC, ATM, Frame Relay, and MPLS).
US Citizen (REQUIRED). Must be able to obtain a DOE Q Clearance.
