Description
As a SOA Architect, you will provide technology expertise and guidance to our development professionals involved in our SOA effort, and remain current with emerging technologies and industry best practices. You will lead the evaluation of new technologies, define the feasibility of their integration, and develop implementation plans. You will provide technical advice on development software, system software platforms, hardware platform technologies, and productivity, management, and control products. You will mentor and guide developers on Java applications, develop analysis and design models, and conduct internal design and code reviews. In addition, you will work with Quality Assurance and other IT functional areas to recommend the creation and assimilation of methodologies across the entire SDLC.
Reports to: The VP of IT
Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of strategic system and technology recommendations
  • Participate in the design and development of applications employing new technologies and methodologies

  • Lead in the development and implementation of development standards and procedures

  • Coordinate with all IT functions to ensure recommendations meet overall IT direction

  • Participate in the cost analysis/justification, written recommendation or presentation to senior management

  • Participate in the creation of project plans, estimates, schedules, and status reports

  • Frequently perform the role of Project Manager, with primary focus on technology evaluation/implementation-related initiatives

  • Provide leadership to peers, inspiring a sense of teamwork and unity, and promoting an environment in which teammates can work closely and effectively

  • Move team objectives and projects forward through the employment of influencing skills

  • Contribute to the ongoing technical training of others, acting as a resource on technologies or through technical presentations

  • Successfully complete assignments with minimal supervision

  • Provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers

  • Assume 24-hour on call responsibility in the event of system problems

Experience/Skills
Required Background/Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years experience in applications development, including 5+ years of experience with SOA and Web services

  • Experience with the following:

    • SOA using J2EE, use of Enterprise Service Bus to support SOA, and the integration of AS400 and DB2 into SOA

    • Business Process Management (BPM), Apache AXIS framework, Business Process Execution Language for Web services (BPEL4WS), and Web services security (WS-Trust)

    • IBM's BPM platform, including Websphere Business Services Fabric and IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA appliances


  • Experience in recommending complex technology solutions, frequently involving unfamiliar platforms and systems

  • Experience in a consulting role on the application, integration, and implementation of technologies

  • Experience leading teams and/or coaching individuals from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience

  • Experience in the use of techniques for estimating level of effort in development projects

  • General understanding of project management fundamentals and working knowledge of system development methodologies


Major Pluses to have

  • Advanced degree

  • Knowledge/experience with SOA testing techniques and tools, such as IBM's Rational Tester and Rational Performance Tester Extension for SOA Quality

  • Knowledge/Experience with manual test authoring and execution tools such as Rational Manual Tester

  • Experience with MKS Source Control or other source control systems
