Assignment: Clinical Applications Development Support

Assignment Capsule
As an Applications Database Administrator you will: develop a comprehensive understanding of Humana's organizational structure and business needs, translating those demands into system architecture and design specifications. You will examine existing technology, interface with internal customers and external vendors, and continually develop technical improvements.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers on new projects to create the requirements and provide input into the requirements from a hardware / technical perspective.
  • Provide your technical expertise with new projects to help get the project started.
  • Work with other database administrators (DBA) on new projects that need equipment, to help get the server built and build the vendor software.
  • Support and load testing.
  • Work with various vendors
  • Extensive SQL work with two areas of responsibility: data mining and administrative functions (maintenance of jobs and recoveries).
  • Write SQL queries and updates.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that has standardized processes.

Role Essentials
  • Progressive experience as a senior developer in large IT projects
  • Prior project architect and/or team lead experience
  • Extensive experience with SQL 2000 and 2005 upgrades.
  • Experience with SQL maintenance, job scheduling, SQL profiling.


Role Desirables
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field


Reporting Relationships
  • You will report to a Technology Manager. This area is under the leadership of the SVP & Chief Operating Officer.
