Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision, the Senior Database Administrator (DBA) designs, develops, and maintains databases in development, testing, and production environments using Microsoft SQL 2000 and/or SQL 2005. The Senior DBA also writes database code (stored procedures) for standalone use or for use by application programs. This staff member is also responsible for stabilizing and optimizing performance of production databases.

This position works closely with other members of the Database and Web Development teams, and also works closely with Business Analysts to understand and evaluate business requirements. The Senior DBA independently determines and develops approaches to solutions, and may occasionally consult the Lead Database Administrator for architecture guidance. Completed work may be subject to review by the Lead DBA for completeness and compatibility with database environment and security requirements.


Education and Experience:
Knowledge of and commercial experience with database design, management and principles. Equivalent to Bachelors degree (preferably in Computer Science or related field) and 3-5 years experience in database development and administration. MCDBA certification is required.
Experience working in a team development environment is required for this position. Experience developing, maintaining, and tuning databases within the guidelines of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing and implementation, is also required.

Required:
This position requires in-depth knowledge of and experience with database design, development, and maintenance practices and principles, with specific experience in Microsoft SQL 2000 and/or SQL 2005. This knowledge includes experience with database procedures, tools, and utilities for maintaining and optimizing databases. Strong understanding of database and application servers, Windows 2003, and other elements of an application infrastructure are required.
This position also requires a basic working knowledge of MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
The Senior DBA staff member is expected to possess good oral and written communications skills and a strong customer service ethic. This employee will be required to work directly with customers on a regular basis, under supervision of the Web Development Manager.
