Job Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance of primary database environment and its reporting counterpart, as well as the many backup servers. Work closely with development staff and web team, participate in new projects to identify the best means of storing and retrieving the information needed by new and existing applications. Set up a regular maintenance schedule, and ensure that our data is kept secure as well as safe. Using native and 3rd-party monitoring tools, responsible for making sure information is accessible and performing well.

Summary of Job Responsibilities:
1. Ensuring backups (includes testing restores) for active production databases
2. Assembling and implementing a valid data archiving plan
3. Ensuring database security, including password security as well as keeping patch status up to date
4. Maintaining data integrity of server(s)
5. Recommending hardware/disk plans and proposed changes
6. Server tuning
7. On-call 24/7 for critical issue resolution
8. Monitoring performance utilizing native and 3rd-party monitoring tools
9. Creating documentation on procedures
10. Participating in development efforts from the perspective of SQL optimization (query tuning), avoidance of duplication of data, and assisting in analysis of new and existing applications
11. Keep change logs of any changes made to the database and comment those changes internally
12. Creating test cases
13. Performing unit testing and QA (when time allows) on both the back end and UI.
14. On call 24/7 1 week a month.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Level of Authority:
This position has the authority to make recommendations for changes and expenditures to the VP Information Services.

Key Measure Responsibilities:
1. Keep database performance to best serve customers.
2. Optimize database speed.

Experience/Skills
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:
3. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
4. Three or more years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
5. Experience with SQL Database Administration; establishing hardware procedures
6. Experience with migration from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 desirable
7. Advanced understanding of SQL (TSQL). Excellent knowledge of Sub Queries, Joins, Built In Functions, Business Logic
8. Good at working without documentation and with little instruction.
9. Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and be results-oriented
10. Must be a self motivated individual
