MICROSOFT SQL SERVER DBA SUPPORT

JOB DESCRIPTION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (must have)

1. 3 years recent experience as a SQL Server database
administrator supporting SQL Server database software,
version 2000 and above.
2. 2 years recent experience as a SQL Server database administrator supporting SQL Server consolidation/virtualization installations
3. 1 year recent experience as a SQL Server database administrator designing, implementing, and maintaining a SQL Server high availability solution
4. 1 year recent experience working with SQL Server database snapshot or transactional replication
5. Certified by Microsoft as an MCDBA

OBJECTIVE
Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) consultant to assist on the following projects:
1. Consolidation/virtualization of 150+ SQL Server database servers, comprised of approximately 65% SQL Server v2000 and 35% SQL Server v2005.
2. Review and fine tuning of SQL Server backup/restore procedures,
including a method to ensure that backups are working as architected
3. Develop automated notification
when SQL Server backups, scheduled maintenance jobs, etc. fail.
4. Critical security/service pack patching and ongoing maintenance of the Department's SQL Server database environment.
5. Analysis of SQL Server monitoring methods and the implementation of approved solutions.
6. Implementation of high availability solutions for mission critical SQL Server databases, including clustering and data replication.

DUTIES & TASKS SQL Server DBA

1. Follow and enhance existing SQL Server database installation, configuration and management standards and procedures.
2. Maintain and administer SQL Server database installations, including troubleshooting and problem resolution.
3. Maintain and enhance the Department's SQL Server database high availability solution.
4. Maintain and enhance the Department's SQL Server database disaster recovery solution.
5. Monitor and perform capacity planning for SQL Server database installations.
6. Provide technical assistance to application staff and departments.
7. Document all technical work and enhance existing documentation.
8. Provide knowledge transfer when deemed necessary by management

Specific tasks shall include all of the following:

1. Perform as the technical lead for SQL Server Database projects
2. Provide 24 by 7 ON-CALL support for SQL Server database production systems
3. Prepare, coordinate, and execute Departmental change control to correct issues and enhance current production systems
4. Provide weekly written status reports to management

BACKGROUND

The Internal Services Department (ISD) Midrange Computing Division (MCD), Database Administration Section (DAS) provides database and application server hosting services and support to Company Departments.

MCD currently supports the following:

Microsoft SQL Server (2000, 2005), Oracle RDBMS (11g, 10g, 9i, 8i) on the IBM AIX, HP-UX, and Microsoft Windows platforms, ADABAS Natural on the HP-UX platform, Oracle Application Server (OAS) on the HP-UX and Microsoft Windows platforms, and IBM WebSphere on the IBM AIX
platform.

Due to the rapid growth in database hosting and support business, MCD is looking to add a Microsoft SQL Server DBA with consolidation/ virtualization experience.
