Job Title: SQL Server DBA
# of Positions: 1
Job Location: Battle Creek, MI
Job Duration: 6 month+ contract to hire
Hourly Rate: $58.87/hr 1099 - or - $51.21/hr W2

Job Description:


Install, configure, upgrade and maintain SQL Server database software

Install SQL Server patches

Implement and monitor backup and recovery programs using DTS jobs

Monitor general maintenance scripts and take appropriate action to correct problems when necessary

Trouble-shoot and correct issues with SQL Server software configuration including replication and clustering

Review and document database for Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance

Use Microsoft Support to document, track, build test cases and fix SQL Server bugs

Server Applications


Install, configure, upgrade and maintain SQL Server databases

Work with application development team to trouble-shoot poor performing SQL or other languages connecting to the SQL Server database

Work with system administration personnel to layout physical database design

Track down and mitigate runaway database connections and processes

Install application code and objects into the database

Research and implement new Microsoft tools and software as necessary

End-User Support


Act as Tier-II support for SQL Server related errors and issues

Act as a resource for knowledge on SQL Server database layout, design and implementation

Technical Requirements


Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA is required, 5+ years is desired. The resource must have DBA knowledge beyond point and click SQL Server DBA knowledge, rather a resource that truly understands the full scope of a DBA role, to include:
o Installation & Tuning of SQL Server database software
o Understanding the SQL Server database, its features and tuning it appropriately in a MS Windows 2003 environment
o Experience working with very large databases, to include hundreds of millions of rows and thousands of tables
o Installing and tuning advanced features: Replication and Clustering
o Disaster Recovery planning and documentation
o Database Backup and Recovery methods

Dot NET (Bonus)

Oracle DBA experience (Bonus)

Non-technical Requirements


Communicate effectively with peers, management and non-technical clients

Able to work in a team environment

Able to be on-call during off-hours, carry a cell-phone

ADP-II Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to communicate effectively. The resource will be responsible for attending imperative meetings regarding current assignments and projects, so having the ability to discuss technical issues in detail and with clarity is required.
