Description
Prestigious Company located in Pella, IA is looking for a SQL Server DBA. This position is a mid-level database administrator. The position reports to the I.T. Infrastructure Team and fulfills a role of resolving I.T. infrastructure database support concerns, managing infrastructure projects, improving processes, and maintaining, operating, and continuously improving the I.T. infrastructure environment across all corporate sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Development
* Proficient in Microsoft SQL 2000/2005. Some experience with Sybase ASE is a plus.
* Assess hardware, software, configuration needs on a recurring schedule for a scalable enterprise level database installation. Prior experience in development and deployment of a large scale, mission critical enterprise application is a must.
* Establish performance bench marks. Create/update process for evaluating database performance for branches.
* Monitor production database performance on a continual basis. Make sure production software release meet the performance benchmarks.
* Proactive prevention of system failure. Assess risks and implement plans to mitigate them.
* Work with developers on new enhancements for best database schema (tables, triggers, indexes, views and relationships). Ensure communication with design/developer is pro-active regarding these changes.
* Create/Update database related standards documentation.
* Setup and Maintain testing environment for database related development / testing work.
* Work with technical team and Project Manager for critical issues or future recommendations/enhancements
* Test and deploy Sybase versions to Branch Sybase servers.
* Able to write batch scripts to automate installs and upgrades of databases. Additionally, provide capability to know if scripts are operational.

Support
* Support Help desk call escalation when needed. Work with network, programmers, testers, etc. to get resolution. Pager support and off-hour flexibility.
* Document and notify help desk of resolution: date, time, contact, and brief description.
* Document standards clearly to ensure team can follow instructions.
* Provide answers to Frequently Asked questions if required
* Provide on-going communication of issue to users, help desk, and/or management while working on a critical issue
* Primary communicator to Database support numbers (ie Sybase help desk) on behalf of the users
