Responsibilities:evaluate prospective data sources:
identify measures (distinguish appropriate grain for our fact tables)
identify dimensions
assess data quality existing at the source
prepare a summary (diagram, Word document, etc.) for discussion with project team
design data mart and load processes
stage, work, fact and dimension tables
ETL (DTS, stored procedures, etc.)
source to stage
stage to dimension
stage to fact
fact to base metric (if appropriate)
performance is critical - many concurrent processes run daily
ensure designs conforms consistently to team standards (or propose new standard)
learn our team standards
no silos/lone wolf development
communicate ideas for improving/enhancing/extending the standards
discuss deviations with team lead before implementing
prepare accurate and complete design documentation (during the development cycle - not as an afterthought at the end)
keep team lead apprised of progress and issues on development projects
break development tasks down into key steps and sequence those steps
create database objects and write code to implement development projects
unit test your own code
review peers' code for correctness, performance, clarity, and technique - provide written feedback
support production data marts
respond to data loading issues
implement enhancements
learn the processes for those data marts not assigned to you so that you can cover support when other team members are unavailable
provide honest, critical, constructive feedback

Experience/Skills
Skills needed:

* Proficient with database design to support web based transactional data collection system. Proficient with relational modeling and normal forms.

* Proficient with database design to support OLAP. Proficient with dimensional modeling.

* Advanced proficiency with TSQL.

* Advanced proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

* Ability to design and develop complex stored procedures.

* Advanced proficiency with ETL process design and development using SQL Server DTS. Understanding and implementing business rules. Data loading.

* Assist with requirements gathering and participate in group design sessions.

* Typically 3-5 years of database development experience.

* Design and development of ETL processes.

* Performance tuning of SQL code.

* Ability to translate requirements into solutions.

* Proficient with Visio and Microsoft Office. Capable of producing process flow diagrams, data model diagrams, data dictionaries, and other technical documentation.

* Mentor and assist other developers.

* Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

* Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for achieving results.
