Description
PLANIT Technology Group, an IT-solutions company, servicing clients across the United States for over 18 years, is searching for a SQL Server Operational DBA.

Responsibilities:


Perform Data Base management system (DBMS) operational management activities on production, test and other existing databases

Monitor Data Base system performance and recommends adjustments to prevent performance deterioration; identify present and future needs, participates in long-range capacity and performance planning, and advises Technology Resources management on issues related to hardware/software; evaluate new technology and software in the area of system performance improvement, productivity tools, or assigned area

Coordinate with other data processing staff members to evaluate need; design/develop storage structures, mapping and search strategies, access methods, and support software for creating, maintaining, and reorganizing database

Install and maintain tools necessary to guard against unauthorized access to and use of database; installs and maintains tools needed to ensure accuracy of data

Administer data dictionary by entering accurate data from other systems and other system documentation and creates appropriate synopses, updates, and cross-references; generate copybooks for data processing staff; monitor growth of production files and plans for expansion and problem resolution; assign and monitor access controls on all data base files

Provide technical support and consulting services to LA DBA staff; assist users in problem resolution related to data base system operation

Install and maintain tools necessary to guard against unauthorized access to and use of database

Adhere to corporate information security guidelines and promotes information security and the protection of automated corporate assets among co-workers by encouraging them to practice safe computing and follow information security guidelines


Minimum Qualifications:


Superior technical, analytical, and design abilities

Ability to make technical decisions critical to successful development and operation of application systems

Current knowledge of hardware and software to determine optimum configurations

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft Office software and Internet Explorer

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, with three years experience working with database and data communications systems, including experience as a systems programmer or programmer analyst, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

This is an extremely low- level DBA. Day-to-day responsibilities will include system backups, granting database permissions, and all other low level operational support tasks.
Possible good candidates would come from a data center background or possibly a development/administration role.
This is a 5 month CTH.
