Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: The incumbent is responsible for the ongoing support and administration of both SQL Server and Oracle databases for production applications. SQL Server is more important as approximately 90% of all new development over the past several years has been .NET and SQL Server. He or she works closely with applications support teams and understands all critical business applications and user functions. He or she monitors, analyzes and ensures database performance, including optimal database settings, disk storage configurations, processor quantity and speed, application SQL improvements, indexes, etc. The incumbent takes ownership of production issues and follows each issue through to solution, even for non-database related problems, for all applications. He or she is also cross-trained in providing database support across applications and platforms. He or she implements small to medium scale application-related database enhancements and may be called upon to implement third party database software. Occasionally the incumbent is assigned primary support of small scale development efforts, which are generally related to the incumbents subject area or platform expertise.
