We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer. This position will be based out of Harland Clarke's Decatur, GA office.
Position Summary

Provide analytical, technical, and administrative knowledge in the full software development life cycle (SDLC) of order fulfillment technology solutions and systems software development. Serve as a technical or system expert for projects during SDLC. Research, design, construct, and implement systems according to user specifications. Write new and modify existing order fulfillment applications and services. Provide technical assistance in answering user questions and addressing production issues. Work in a highly interactive team environment interacting closely with functional and technical staff to lead and implement solutions to business requirements.

Key Duties / Responsibilities

Essential duties are identified by asterisks.
Interface with business customers, assess customer requirements, develop creative solutions, and evaluate alternatives. Gather and document requirements and create and document detailed development specifications. Develop unit test cases. Document new development and enhancements to existing applications and systems.

Act as IT lead / liaison on projects and work efforts. Ensure work plans are executed, maintain and submit accurate progress reports for each project to management.

Provide input for cost / benefit analysis of proposals, estimation of budgets and time lines, and resource requirements for successful and timely completion of projects.

Participate in the preparation of detailed work plans for business process improvement efforts and related technology solutions.

Develop detailed procedural documentation and training materials.

Prioritize and work multiple tasks across multiple projects or work efforts.

Follow SDLC methodology to ensure delivery of a quality product.

Follow change control process to ensure integrity of the production environment.

Provide technical assistance to users. Mentor team members.

Provide on call support as required. Monitor and resolve production support requirements. Provide appropriate follow up and status as per defined process.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree is highly desirable.

Experience / Skills / Abilities Required
Microsoft Visual C++, MS Visual Studio 6/2005
Strong SQL/T-SQL skills using Microsoft SQL 2000
Strong experience digital composition technologies (Postscript)
Strong experience with digital imaging
Experience writing Windows applications and services.
C#, .Net, Monotype experience a plus


Experience/Skills/Abilities Preferred

Experience programming other development technologies such as C#, VB, .NET, Delphi, and Oracle.

Experience using Microsoft Visual Source Safe.

Knowledge of project management.

Supervisory Responsibility
Develop less experienced resources; mentor and teach.

Communication & Contacts Required

Ability to deal with changing priorities and work assignment.

Communicate effectively and work in a cross-functional team environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high degree of credibility.

This position is in constant contact with other corporate employees, vendors, and clients.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions


Office

5 to 7 years of analysis and programming experience in a distributed development environment.

Excellent analytical, problem solving, troubleshooting, and decision making skills.

Strong customer service and teamwork skills.

Strong programming skills in C++ and MS SQL / T-SQL.

Experience writing client server, multi-threaded, and web service applications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Able to work with different teams, bringing teams together to form solutions, facilitate meetings and discussions.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and work effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of resources from both the technical and business staff.
