Description

- Plan and execute core service, operating system and major hardware upgrades and projects from conception to completion
- Provide operational support to key environments including user account management, workflow, log analysis, troubleshooting and service optimization
- Update knowledge base with problem fixes and system knowledge as directed
- Maintain/Monitor assigned systems within environment to ensure optimal performance, to determine system upgrade/replacement schedules, and to meet established Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitments.
- Member of cross-functional technical projects that require Linux Server technology as a primary component of the solution
- Participate in business driven projects as a representative of Solaris server team.
- Represent IT needs, provide subject matter expertise, assist in implementation planning and execute tasks to project plan. Provide timely status updates to Technical project manager. Provide additional support as needed.
- Gather business requirements, architect, document and implement IT solution that meets established requirements and standards
- Recommend and establish operation requirements, policies and procedures for key services
- At senior levels, responsible for overall administration and management of key infrastructure services.Technical Skills:
- System administration skills and knowledge of Sun Solaris versions (8, 9, and 10) and Red Hat 3 and 4.
- A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts.
- Understanding of the administration of SQL database servers such as MySql, Oracle, and DB2.
- Knowledge of standard backup infrastructures.
- UNIX system and program installation, compilation and configuration;
- System-level security procedures, familiarity with cryptography tools (e.g. secure shell, OpenSSL, IPSec)
- Experience maintaining servers for standard Internet services such as DNS, NFS, DHCP, Samba, printing (e.g. LPR, CUPS) and FTP service;
- Three to five years Unix System Administration experience in a Unix Solaris Production environment.
- Proficient with various aspects of Unix System Administration such as configuring of mail systems fundamental networking and distributed computing environment concepts such as NFS NIS and routing concepts using TCP/IP.
- Experience with EMC and IBM storage systems
- Experience with setup and configuration of striping and mirroring of file systems using Symantec Veritas product line including but not limited to:o Storage Foundation Suiteo Cluster Server,o Volume Managero NetBackup
- Ability to write scripts in Perl or Shell
- Experience with SAN and NAS solutions from IBM, EMC, NetApp, Qlogic, and Emulex is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Fujitsu hardware, Red Hat Linux is a plus.Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: BA/BS degree in engineering, computer science or related field or equivalent education and experience.Minimum Experience For Consideration: Five years systems experience, including experience analyzing and designing systems, features and components of systems and troubleshooting and resolving complex problems.df-tc
