POSITION DESCRIPTION
SR. ELECTRICAL/HARDWARE DESIGN ENGINEER

Department: Research & Development
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: MANAGEMENT
Range: 70K-90K

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrical/Hardware Design Engineer will manage all assigned design activities for the entire Hochiki product line for existing, underdevelopments and upcoming products.

Key tasks include:

BSEE or BSME and 5+ years experience in analog and digital systems microcontroller based panel hardware design. Wireless & Fiber optic networking is essential.
MUST be HANDS-ON individual theoretically and practically.
Power supply design, AC/DC, DC/DC converters, Ethernet components is a plus.
Fire Alarm equipment experience and/or related industry are essential.
Understanding of EMC hardware design techniques and experience with electronic design tools (Orcad, PADs) for board level schematic capture. Design experience with ARM, PIC microprocessors is a plus.
Extensive circuitry design experience with the ability to understand and work with the company proprietary communications protocol.
Familiarity with UL864 testing standard and NFPA 72 fire alarm codes.
Technical writing skills for use in products and instruction manuals, technical bulletins, design specifications, and UL, CSA and other agency submission documents.
Ability to meet project deadlines & capable of dealing with problems involving several variables in various situations.
Provide test procedure (theoretical and practical) for current products and underdevelopments products.
Coordinate and perform independent lab testing and system mock-ups to address related product technical issues.
Keep apprised of current industry-related information testing & provide data for test literature and technical bulletins and collaborate with manufacturers of equipment using products to maximize performance.
Generate presentations to illustrate the design concept in visual imaging.
Maintains excellent communication skills (verbal & written) with technical team and others inside and outside the company through regular meetings and personal contact and competency in technical reports writing and documentation in a professional and well-articulated manner.
Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft software related to word processing, charts/graphs, statistics, and flowcharting.
Attends and participates in group meetings and committees as needed to assure design concept meets and exceeds the sales/marketing's demands.
Plan, analyzes and coordinate records and data to generate improvements and/or corrective action.
Ability to make sound and quick decisions and must successfully responds to multiple tasks in fast-paced environments.

We are ISO 9001:2000 compliant. The selected candidate will be self-motivated, with the ability to champion projects while working with a small team of engineers. The candidate will require limited supervision and be responsible for control panel development from conceptual design to completion. Cooperation with UL, ULC, FM and other agencies will be required during the submission and approvals of designed products. Understanding the Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma are desired.
