As a DecisionOne Field Engineer making calls on clients in New York City and/or New Jersey, your mission, once trained in our procedures, will be providing system support for mid range Sun Servers (Enterprise, Sun Fire) as well as high end Sun Servers (e10K and E15K). Prior experience on Sun/Solaris, including formal Sun certifications, such as the Sun Certified Senior System Support Engineer, will arm you with exceptional diagnostic capabilities, which will be crucial to your success. When the problem is hardware, you will isolate it to a part, replace it and run diagnostics. If a system crashes or a server won't reboot and you diagnose a software problem, your ability to analyze a dump will help you and Sun technical support to effectively take corrective action. Your facility with using diagnostic tools including the Sun Validation Test Suite (VTS), Explorer and PRTdiags will help drive your troubleshooting efforts. Solaris administration is a definite plus.

DecisionOne will help to ensure your Sun proficiency via Sun web-based training in which Field Engineers can participate during normal business hours. These sessions include associated exams, allowing you to earn additional Sun certifications and also include customer interface training to improve your skills on the non-technical side. Certification Magazine's 2005 salary survey indicated that Sun certifications paid off handsomely: In 2005 Sun Certified System Administrators earned on average 42% more than Microsoft Certified System Administrators.
