Project Description: The role of the SW Builds RELEASE Engineer is to create, update & maintain per cycle WW SW Builds Material Lists in timely, correct, complete & will-informed manner enabling CPC to deliver high-quality consumer desktop PCs in a competitive time-to-market business.Responsibilities: Deliver cPC SW Builds configurations to SPMs for release first to ODM Labs and then to factories that meet cPC quality, functional and schedule requirements.Expertise Development: Quickly ramp into R&D lab sw build & recovery process requirements, tools, procedures. Quickly develop understanding and expertise of the current tools, process and usage. Bring in or develop sufficient knowledge of many and even expertise in some of the hw & sw technologies used in cPC products (technical breadth & depth).Gain detailed knowledge of the cPC SW Builds & Test process elements, tools, procedures, meetings, documents, teams & individuals. Gain detailed knowledge of & expertise in how SWIT, especially sw block attachment, works. Issue Monitoring & Management: Monitor WW SW issues, especially, critical & serious ones, that will impact WW sw build schedule. Assign issues assigned to build team to individual team members for resolution. Resolve or help resolve or drive resolution of issues owned by SW Builds Team. Block Attachment: Attend relevant meeting that discuss SW. Readiness Review, SW POR, SW Execution, System Meetings, BRQFFST, others. Monitor SW Blocks that are being check-in or that are about to be checked-in after issue fixes or SW POR changes. Plan SW Blocks attachment to proper sw builds with due consideration to Quality & Schedule concerns per info in SWIT check-ins and release notes or after discussing with component owners. After discussion with SPMs to minimize impact on schedule or quality, especially during [CD2Ship-4] weeks to [CD2Ship+2] weeks. Use SWIT tool to add & update revised blocks from various component owners. Capabilities Requirements: Ability to help cPC Lab, SPM & ODMs deliver sw builds on schedule and quality. Ability to gain & keep more than surface knowledge on hw & sw technologies. That are already POR or under discussion at cPC. Ability to know ww sw build schedules and keep up with changes. Ability to be kept in the know or loop on all sw changes. Changes that will impact schedules &/or quality. SW POR changes, under discussion or already decided. SW Block script or underlying component issues, especially critical & serious as they are reported WW. Ability to be kept informed about sw plans and content or schedule changes under discussion. Ability to work with a variety of component owners, with varying technical skills, in a calm, professional but firm manner to get blocks fixed on time. Ability to co-drive, along with MIST Lead, component owners to deliver fixed blocks on time so as keep planned schedules. Ability to fore-warn SPMs & ODMs on issues and up-coming blocks that may impact their build schedules, especially during the critical 6 weeks.MUST Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Minimum of 2 years of experience in PC related field. Two or more years experience in Windows XP & DOS. Experience in PC Architecture. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment. Experience in current HP cPC SW Builds Tools, Processes and Concepts.Required Skills: Windows XP & DOS, PC Architecture, HP cPC SW Builds Tools, Processes and Concepts.This 12+ month position starts ASAP.
