Software Engineer - Installation and PackagingLocation: Emeryville, CAJob description:Aspera, a fast-growing software start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area building leading edge data transport technology, is seeking an experienced software engineer for building product installers and packages for its varied, cross-platform line of products. The candidate must be sensitive to the customer's first experience with the product and be able to research, learn and master various software packager techniques.Responsibilities: * Design, implement and maintain software installers and packagers for all supported operating systems (FreeBSD, Linux, Mac, Solaris, Windows and embedded) * Own the deployment component in all software modules, to ensure compatibility to deployment conventions * Design and implement automatic product upgrade features for entire product line * Design and implement installation verification tools for customer support and automated testing * Manage customer requirements in the area of product deployment and installationRequired Skills: * Advanced knowledge of shell and scripting languages (Windows batch scripting, Unix shell scripting, Perl, Ruby) * Working knowledge of C and system APIs for commonly used operating systems * Good understanding of operating systems and package managers (RPM, Windows installer, etc.) * Working knowledge of operating system installation and operation (Linux, Windows, Solaris, Mac OS X, Free BSD, virtual machines) * Effective verbal and written communication * Ability to thrive in a self-starter, non-hierarchical environment, achieving results on tight timelinesDesired Background: * B.Sc. or greater in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline * 2 or more years of professional experience in software engineeringdf-tc
