ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Technical Specialist is an individual contributor responsible for providing product and/or technology expertise within a specified domain to the customer engagement life cycle, from presales, through design and delivery.The Technical Specialist provides technical support for strategic and tactical business initiatives including subject matter expertise to RFI/RFP responses and/or unsolicited proposals, benchmarking, prototyping, implementation activities.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Evaluation of customers needs and selection of appropriate technology and orsolutions. Provides consultative sales support which includes product/technology positioning and feature/functionality consultation.Responsible for creating product/ technology/component designs that meet specified customer requirements.Performs development, installation, configuration and tuning of a product, product set or software component per the specified design parameters.Helps influence decision makers within the customer. Applies industry/solution best practices as well as SMI methodology throughout the engagement life cycle.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of Sun's current vision, strategy and roadmap; in-depth knowledge of Sun's products and solutions, including market positioning, within a specified technology or solution domain. Knowledge of partner products and solutions competitors products and solutions available in the market place.Consultative skillsAbility to define and articulate customer value propositions for products, technologies or solutions within a specified technology or solution discipline.Deep technical expertise in given product/technology/solution domain.Ability to work independently,as an integral team member or virtually, as required.Broad, hands-on technical skills in an open-systems environment.Domain/discipline/industry knowledge.Excellent communication skills written and verbal.Demonstrated ability to build and maintain customer relationships with key decision makers and influencers.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

3 to 10+

MINIMUM LEVEL OF EDUCATION:

BS or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

FIELD OF STUDY:

CS Engr. or Math
