Description
The required field location is Southern California. The Applications Specialist?s responsibility is to meet or exceed sales targets for Millipore?s Biopharmaceutical products which include all those offered for use in Normal Flow Filtration (NFF), Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) and Chromatography areas in the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical industry. Sales emphasis is on Millipore?s expendable filter products. To achieve this goal, the Applications Specialist must have a working knowledge of all aspects of fermentation and purification processes and the ability build credibility through problem solving and providing superior service to the customer at all times. Key to success in this position is generating growth by developing and implementing plans of action while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include conducting or assisting with seminars, demonstrations and filtration studies.

The Application Specialist will coordinate both the sales and service of Millipore?s Biopharmaceutical products through:

? Identification of and working with customers to apply Millipore?s separations technologies.
? Coordination of various types of filtration studies.
? Coordination and/or preparation of technical reports and commercial proposals.
? Following-up and closing opportunities.
? Maintenance and updating of account knowledge as it relates to Millipore products.

The Applications Specialist will be assisted in the field by Millipore?s Systems Specialists, Process Development Scientists and Field Service Engineers as well as headquarters-based application support and service personnel.

Specific Goals and Objectives Include:

(1) Financial Targets: Meet or exceed sales targets, accurately forecast future business, analyze market share and dynamics, develop account strategy and effectively coordinate activity with field and headquarters based Systems Specialists, Process Development Scientists and Service Engineers.

(2) Develop Customer Satisfaction: Promote and maintain Millipore value, train and support Millipore personnel, be technically proficient with "application know-how", maintain effective time and territory management, create product demand through lead generation and follow-up, maintain negotiation skills, sell to all levels of the customer sites, maintain Millipore credibility, optimize available time with the customer and establish access to the entire account.

(3) Account Profiling: Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the accounts, the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical Industry in general and the competition.

(4) Communication: Effectively communicate the customer's needs and business priorities with Millipore.

(5) Alignment with Divisional Goals: Implement key marketing strategies and programs. Participate in multination account management.

(6) Administrative Activities: Respond to customers with letters and reports, submit expense reports to Millipore, respond to voice and e-mail, close leads and implement divisional programs in an efficient and timely manner.

(7) General: Be aware of regulatory requirements, safety and standard industry practices.

Education: A minimum of a BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Bio-Chemical Engineering or a Life Science.

Work Experience: A minimum of three years in or servicing the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical Industry. A working knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing with hands-on experience with NFF, TFF and/or Chromatography applications is mandatory. Sales and project management experience is desirable.df-tc
