Description
Senior Systems/Sales Engineer - Washington, D.C. Region
Provide pre-sales technical assistance to the sales and marketing organizations as required.
This typically includes:
- Product architecture overview
- Product demonstrations,
- Facilitating successful proof-of-concept (evaluation) engagements
- Assist with RFI/RFP Responses
- Providing support during trade show events
- Act as technical liaison for customer / sales / development
- Work with Project Managers / TAG on more complex sales architectures
Conduct proper follow-up on accounts for technical issues related to the sales cycle.
Utilize time management and planning processes as defined by management in order to fully maximize sales-support effectiveness during the sales process.
May occasionally be asked to assist with the creation of customer case studies,integration white papers, and other documentation as required for internal and external use.

Provide feedback to technical services and development on product information and share solutions developed in the field.
Must be willing to perform other work as required.
Required
- Solid foundation in network management; including applicable protocols, operating systems and the OSI Network Management functional areas.
- Solid background in enterprise data communications and telecommunications technologies.
- Comprehensive understanding of Network Management -
- Experience in one or more of the following network management technologies HP Openview, Cabletron Spectrum, CA TNG, Tivoli, HP NNM, Optivity Enterprise, Netview, Nerve Center, CiscoWorks.
- Operating Systems: Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Linux, Windows NT.
- UNIX system admin level experience, shell scripting (bash, korn, C) and working knowledge of Perl, Awk, Sed and other commonly used programming languages.
Must be able to utilize these tools to customize client's integration when necessary.
- Network Management Protocols: SNMP, RMON, RMONII, CMIP, MIB, MIB2.
- Solid understanding of SNMP and its application within large scale network management architectures.
- Strong understanding of a solutions oriented, network management software sales cycle from the prospecting stage through final invoicing.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills coupled with the ability to discuss complex technology subjects with a non-technical audience.
- Experience providing technical sales support in major account activity involving complex technical and business issues
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Preferred
- Experience with client/server architecture, RDBMS, Oracle and SQL or Sybase.
- Knowledge of Remedy Action Request System or similar trouble ticketing software.
Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience along with a minimum of 4 years working in a pre-sales technical position focusing on large-scale network management architecture.df-tc
