Position Summary
The Search Optimization role will have a high level knowledge of search engine indexing capabilities and ranking methods. This role will undertake many of the technical aspects of search engine optimization in order to maximize the search engine visibility for the Disney Online sites. This individual will be responsible for evaluating toolsets and changes in methodology for search engine optimization. This role will perform search engine optimization activities, including analysis of our site's implementation of SEO best practices. Improves Search and Meta Tag best practices and assists in creating policy and enforcement measures.

This role is responsible for defining and maintaining DOL standard taxonomy as well as creating a plan for improving DOL?s search returns for internal search results. This individual will be accountable for creating and enhancing subject trees that result in high quality response to customer search inquiries. Ensures quality search results through review of relevancy tests and hands-on review of searches.

This individual will produce search reports and analysis on a schedule to be defined by the department manager and track metrics, including referrals, link popularity, and rankings. This role will work directly with Production Teams, Project Managers, QA and Engineers to coordinate releases and enhancements to search engines and related products. Provide consolidated weekly status report to the Senior Manager. Work to ensure that proper documentation and training materials are updated and reflects current processes and practice for Search.

The Search Optimization Expert owns all vendor relationships connected with that role. This individual will research, identify, and establish partnerships to improve results.

The Search Optimization Expert will also have oversight for the directory structures and naming conventions for Disney Online. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining the directory structure and naming convention policies.

Required Qualifications
  • A degree in Information Science, Information Architecture, Library Science or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in search engine optimization
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with search toolsets
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of web-based application environments.
  • Basic understanding of information architecture.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions based on proper research

  • Ability to perform analysis based on requirements and design documents
  • Familiar with Search technologies
  • Expert in catalog theory and taxonomy
  • Deep understanding of tags and naming convention for identifying context and content
  • Familiarity with log analysis
  • Understanding of HTML, JavaScript, XML
  • Experience with analytics tools
  • Knowledge of automated testing tools
  • Knowledge of SQL, Java, Flash, Shockwave, JSP, Tomcatdf-tc
