PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Provide project design civil engineering services on large and medium scale highway improvement projects in Nevada. May be assigned to a PS&E style delivery program, or the project development phase - in support of NEPA environmental documents. Many projects will be followed through the construction phase in post design services. May assist with delivery of multiple projects on a specified corridor or in other areas around the Las Vegas valley.


POSITION OVERVIEW:
Performs moderately-complex highway design functions through the application of engineering techniques and analyses. The Designer at this level is proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices, and Company procedures. Assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes a CAD workstation to prepare difficult and complex layout and design drawings utilizing theoretical and practical design knowledge. Interprets and ensures conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures. Understands and utilizes more advanced software to complete assignments.

Works closely with Engineers and other disciplines to ensure coordinated design systems.

Meets layout requirements and develops alternate design layouts of systems as required.

Ensures compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.

Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.

Checks orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. Performs quality control procedures as appropriate to the discipline and assigned by immediate supervisor.

Assists in training lower-level Designers and Technicians in various procedures.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Experience/Skills
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as 8+ years of experience using Microstation and InRoads on transportation projects, including highways.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Requirements include PC literacy, a working knowledge of CAD design software (Microstation and Inroads preferred), and a working knowledge of other computer software used to complete design assignments.
