Senior Application Performance TesterLocation: San FranciscoPosition Summary: This position entails conducting and coordinating the analysis, design, and execution of computer based information systems tests to meet user and system requirements. At this level, the tester works, within procedural guidelines and with limited supervision, on a wide range of assignments of broad scope and complexity with moderate to high risk to the organization and that require expertise-based judgment and creative non-standard solutions in specific fields of expertise. This tester needs to work effectively with other groups to persuade, exchange ideas and foster cooperation. Major Areas of Responsibility / Tasks % of timeSOFTWARE TESTING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE* Analyze, review and assess user requirements, specifications and models for testability. Participate in functional and technical specification meetings to understand business requirements and implementation approach.* Determine test effort/cost, test design specifications, test case specifications and/or test procedure specifications.* Develop test plans and test scripts, including conditions and expected results, in accordance with IT standards to sufficiently test the product. Participate in reviews of others** test plans. * Coordinate with system/network administration to set up test environment.* Prepare or create test data to thoroughly test program logic and verify system flow.* Implement tests on all appropriate levels (e.g. functional and system integration tests), execute and document/log the tests, evaluate the results and document the deviations from expected results. If applicable, measure the performance of the product. Track test incident resolution. * Automate tests when possible.* Create test summary reports and risk analysis for business client acceptance. * At times, provide consulting expertise for applications and software being tested by others. * Regularly keep supervisor informed of the status of testing, particularly items that could impact the delivery of the product. TEST TOOL SUPPORT * (Optional/possible area of concentration for 30% of Time which would reduce the percentage of time for Software Testing and Quality Assurance to 50%)* Provide test tool support for the Mercury test tools. Learn and understand the automated test tools (WinRunner and QuickTest Pro), the test management tool (Quality Center), and the load/performance test tool (Load Runner). Teach and help others to use the test tools. Contact the vendor for test tool support as necessary. Document the recommendations on how to use the test tools and document the answers to the frequently asked questions. Upgrade and troubleshoot the test tools as necessary. TEST MANAGEMENT* Use test administration or management tools and test monitoring tools as required.* Use project management methodology and techniques to manage software application testing tasks. Plan, estimate, schedule, and control testing phases of projects. * Develop testing project plans and schedules. Coordinate the testing phase of a project with other project members and testers. CLIENT SUPPORT AND CONSULTING* Build and maintain positive, pro-active relationships with clients. Understand the clients** business and the needs that the clients face. Provide client consultation and testing support, as needed. * Keep client informed of testing progress. (ISTQB) Tester Certification Desired* 5 to 7 years of experience in similar or related job functions. * Participation in projects of low to medium complexity. * Leadership role in projects of medium complexity.* Detail oriented, analytical, excellent oral and written communication skills, business understanding and functional expertise (e.g. SAP, Customer Information Systems applications)* Test Management Tools (e.g. Quality Center) Required* SQL Desired. If part of job assignment:Test Automation/Performance Tools Desired (e.g. WinRunner, Quick Test Pro, LoadRunner).PERFORMANCE TESTING* Performance testing experience needed to work as a member of the Performance Test Team of the SDC Testing Center of Excellence to provide test consulting expertise to performance test applications and software for projects and applications, including SAP. Must follow the SDC Methodology to prepare the required testing documentation (performance test approach, performance test scope, performance test plan, performance test scripts, test data, test cycle plan, test closure memo).
