Cognos (Powerplay/Impromptu/ReportNet) DeveloperThis is a technical, hands-on position that requires experience delivering reporting solutions via Cognos business intelligence tool set.Qualified applicants must have Bachelors degree in computer science and 5-7 years of IT experience. This person will be responsible for the Cognos (Powerplay and Impromptu) upgrade and setting up of the Cognos ReportNet. To accomplish this successfully, he or she must know core Cognos, a hands-on SQL knowledge, and the ability to communicate to the technical community that supports the warehouse executing any desired enhancements. Strong knowledge of Cognos tools such as Impromptu, Powerplay, Transformer and ReportNet and a history of moving these systems into production. Strong exposure to Upfront Cognos Query, Architect and Access Manager and experience in Sales and Marketing systems is a plus.The Cognos Developer will: 1) work with other technical team members, 2) author technical requirements for the upgrade and translate them into functional and detailed specifications, 3) will participate in tool and software evaluations, 5) maintain and enhance an existing BI environment, 6) code Extraction Cognos Scripts, models, catalogs, and 6) produce high-quality reporting.Projects would include enhancing existing Cognos cubes and catalogs, implementing Upfront portal with Powerplay web, Impromptu web reports, Cognos query tool and Cognos ReportNet, prioritizing work flows and developing standard, custom and ad-hoc reports. Principal Responsibilities:- Responsibility for designing, implementing and supporting all aspects of Cognos Upgrade and ReportNet. - Manage the Cognos environment and develop reports using Cognos Impromptu, Cognos PowerPlay and Cognos ReportNet.- Work closely with external consultants, IT management, and internal development staff on new system initiatives and to define project requirements. - Will be responsible for authoring requirements documents, use cases, flow charts, and any other supporting documentation for the project as needed.- Perform necessary analysis and evaluation to fully understand the technical strategies for projects. Conduct research into technology best practices and makes recommendations to management.- Maintains existing documentation and creates new system documentation for all reporting applications.- Responsible for assisting in project scheduling, documentation and tracking. - Receives only general supervision; carries out routine duties independently; uses appreciable originality on system assignments; discusses or seeks approval on complex matters.- Production support during weekend/off-hours work, when required.- Quickly learning the PAH business and reporting needs, as well as understanding existing PAH systems, tools, and databases.- Keeping up with the changing technology and data warehousing industry trends.- Multi-tasking and handling changing priorities in order to effectively work within the IT team.Candidates should have at least 5-7 years of development expertise utilizing the following technologies: The following tools are must:- ALL COGNOS SERIES 7- Powerplay Enterprise Server- Powerplay Transformation Server and Transformer- Powerplay Client - Report Writer and Exploration- Impromptu Web Reports- Impromptu Administrator (Use of Catalogs)- Impromptu User- Cognos query- Cognos Visualizer - ReportNet- Adobe Acrobat writer- MS Excel and Access - Other Query tools- SQL- Stored ProceduresGood to Have- ASP- XML, HTML- Visual Basic- JavaScript- VB Script- COM and ADO. The database experience you must have is with SQL 2000. This person needs to be a self-starter and be able to work independently. Clear and concise written and verbal communication is a must. Work well as a team player in a matrix management organization. Working as a team player is a must.
