SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This Senior Design Engineer will have comprehensive responsibility for RF-based product design and ongoing support of existing products within the guidelines of company's Product Development Process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform design of new products and enhancements/improvements of current products. Seek new and better technologies and methods to increase product reliability, add features and reduce component and production costs.
2. Effectively use design tools and methodologies. This includes analysis and simulations. Produce and maintain necessary documentation.
3. Effectively use Company's Product Development Process when developing new products as well as the C/C++ Software Coding standard, the Engineering Prototype Spreadsheet, Project Accounting Spreadsheet and our ECN procedures. Participate in the continuous improvement of engineering practices and procedures.
4. Provide Marketing support which includes providing technical evaluations /recommendations and developing project and product cost estimates for new product ideas.
5. Provide Engineering support to Sales, Customer Service and Tech Support.
6. Provide support to Operations, which includes making design changes to improve manufacturability, reduce product build costs and support Purchasing in selecting and qualifying vendors. Also, perform failure analysis/investigations to find the root-cause of production and field failures and, if appropriate, make design changes.
7. Provide Project Management on assigned projects. This includes estimating project cost and time. It also includes doing project schedules, making assignments, calling meetings, coordinating activities, completing PDP and/or ECN documentation, assist the Project Team in meeting deadlines/milestones on schedule, help the team maintain the balance between innovation and meeting project milestones, etc.
8. As an individual contributor, meet project objectives with innovation, creativity and good engineering practice.
9. As appropriate, be familiar with domestic and international Regulatory Standards; FCC, UL, CE, CISPR, BSI, etc. Support testing to these standards and getting certifications as appropriate. Be knowledgeable of the relevant standards and include them in Formal Product Specifications.
10. Continuously improve skills required, seeking training through seminars, literature, industry shows/workshops and relevant course work.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Familiarity and experience with standards based RF products, ideally IEEE 802.15.4.

2. In-depth experience in radio transmitter and receiver design in the 400 MHz to 2.5 GHz range, with emphasis on medium to high volume cost sensitive applications,

3. Experienced in the use of RF simulation in real-world designs.

4. Strong understanding of the trade-offs in Noise Figure, Bandwidth, Dynamic Range, power efficiency, and various modulation techniques.

5. Experience in production testing methods for RF oriented products.

6. Experience in the application of embedded microcontrollers in radio products, including general competence in C and assembly language programming.

7. Up to date knowledge of RF components and chip-sets for radio-based product design

8. Familiarity with antenna structures and concepts.

9. Familiarity with EMC and shielding requirements.

10. Familiarity with Low power (battery operated) design principles.

11. A personal history of interest in electronics with an emphasis on radio communications.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. BSEE or equivalent technical degree
2. A demonstrated interest in continuing education in relevant technology areas.
