Description
4 year product design or graphic design degree. 5-8 yrs. industry experience (combo of corp., software, web, agency exp.). 1-2 years product and personnel lead exp. Exp. w/ major design, Multimedia, and operating system software.

Position with the CDC Communications user experience team. They are seeking an experienced Design Lead to help build the design team and uplift the design efforts. Will play a role in defining and building a strong user experience team that actively works with a variety of functional teams across the group and the company. The MSN communications properties include high traffic applications such as Messenger, Hotmail, Spaces and Mobile. Responsibilities include development of UI models and design solutions; look and feel and brand implementation; oversight of design projects; design specifications; user tasks and flow. Position could also include oversight of other individuals responsible for feature-level design work; could also include oversight of outside vendors, agencies and contract designers.

Candidate will coordinate and collaborate with communications user experience team members (usability and UA) and product team members (PM's) in Messenger, Hotmail, Spaces and Mobile on feature goals, design objectives, wire frames, prototypes, user tasks and scenarios, and MSN brand goals. The Design Lead will work closely with other Design team members and other User Experience managers in the CDC, as well as PM's to own customer centric design for MSN communications properties.

Successful candidate will be well trained in design, illustrate an ability to apply strategic thinking and business goals to design work, possess an understanding of both work flow and product design, and will be known for having a good eye, visual flair and aesthetic values. Management or lead experience a plus. Candidate will have worked as a hands-on UI design practitioner and will be responsible for delivering hands-on exploratory and finished design. The ideal Design Lead candidate will:

Lead by example, smarts and design principles.
Be capable of defining and implementing design criteria, design guidelines and design specs.
Be tolerant of range of projects that the design team will respond to, from vague to well-defined, simple to complex, implementation to innovation.
Be capable and insightful lead who can help build team skills and influence their design and business contribution.
Be a creative problem-solver and effective presenter.
Be efficient and insightful in dealing with peers and with cross-team issues.
Illustrate ability to load and priority balance and deliver the right solutions for the business at the right times.

Experience in shipping high-volume, high-profile or award-winning software products.
Candidate will have strong portfolio available for viewing.
Should have experience will all major design, multimedia and operating system software: Photoshop, Flash, Director, Windows, Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Quark Express, Pagemaker (Mac experience acceptable as long as candidate has significant experience designing and producing on the PC as well.

Pluses:
Post-graduate design degree preferred
