Primary Role:
A Senior Systems Analyst specializing in Linux(primarily Redhat) Server deployment
and support within the DHTS (Duke Health Technology Solutions)
Infrastructure Services Group. The systems layer infrastructure
deployed by this team supports various clinical and business
applications across Duke Medicine in an environment of multiple systems
layer platforms, including Windows, LINUX (Redhat, SUSE) IBM AIX, and
Sun Solaris Servers with both VMWare and LPAR virtualizations and HP
& IBM SAN. The successful candidate must possess the ability and
experience to design, create, and support Enterprise ready systems
according to best practices.

Additional responsibilities include
requisite day-to-day activities such as monitoring, automation,
performance tuning, security/patch update analysis and disaster
recovery preparedness.

Essential tasks/responsibilities:
#
Defines, designs, proposes and implements system enhancements (software
and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability
of the systems infrastructure.
# Ability to consult and interface
with Duke Medicine Application owners on various aspects of system
design and support with regard to performance, sizing, and best
practices.
# Manual and automated operating systems installation
& configuration of Linux in both standard and VMWare environments.
Deploy and enhance standard server systems best practices.
# Disk and volume management experience, including Linux LVM on local disk, Linux software RAID, and SAN based storage.
#
Shell programming and use of automated Scripting packages (Shell, Perl,
etc) for system administration and software installation, management.
#
Installation, configuration, and management of TCP/IP protocol stack on
various versions of Linux, including configuration and management of
all network communication services (NFS, DNS, etc)
# Installation,
configuration, and management of LDAP and Kerberos authentication on
Linux systems integrating with Microsoft Active Directories, including
local security configuration and account privileges design and
interoperability.
# Support day-to-day systems management and
monitoring of the DHTS systems layers, specifically focusing on the
Linux as well as backup support for AIX environments.
# Familiarity
with application installation on Linux systems, including Oracle
database (RAC, non-RAC). Interact with Oracle DBAs to implement/support
Oracle DB Servers running on Linux.
# Manage and enhance systems management tools and procedures, with a specific focus of leveraging the DHTS Tivoli Framework.
#
Take part in Evaluations, Proposals and Implementations of new
technology that correlates with DHE business goals. Will
collaboratively work with support teams/vendors toward project
milestones.
# Follow development and implementation procedures,
including the development and execution of test plans, change control,
development of system documentation. Ensure high quality by
participating in and following DHTS and industry best practices
processes.
# Monitor Linux environments to ensure that access is appropriate and report unauthorized access or attempts to management.
#
Responsible formonitoring of processes, system triage and recovery,
providing advanced technical consultation on design and engineering
solutions, supporting system implementations and integrations, systems
analysis and diagnosis, trouble-shooting, performance analysis and
resolution as well as technical leadership/mentorship to peers, build,
plan team members,
and management supporting DHTS. # Participation in an on-call rotation that provides 24x7x365 coverage of mission critical
systems.
# Ensure security of technology solutions:
#
Author, implement, execute, and periodically update System Security,
Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery Plans to be consistent with
Duke Medicine policies and standards regarding security and HIPAA
compliance.
# Design, implement, maintain, upgrade, and patch
systems to be compliant with Duke Medicine security policies and
standards regarding protection from external and internal security
attacks.
# Administer, validate, and review user and system
accounts, access controls, audit logs and system integrity to maximize
system security and data confidentiality.
# Research and remediate generic and system-specific vulnerabilities.

Education/training
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, math, or a computer related field or equivalent experience.
Preferred: Professional technical training in Linux (Redhat and Suse), VMWare

Experience
Required:
Minimum five years experience working on Linux platforms in medium/
large organizations having segregated development/test, QA, Staging and
production environments.
Thorough understanding of LINUX Server
Systems such as Redhat and SUSE supporting multiple critical
applications. kickstart, rpm, Shell scripting, Redhat Satellite Server

Preferred: Experience with VMWare Server Systems, Tivoli, TSM, Remedy. Experience with SAN technology, IBM, HP EVA preferred.

Desirable: Kerberos, NIS, AIX, Solaris, Oracle, Microsoft Active Directory Technology.
