Description
Primary role:
An experienced Z/OS
Systems Programmer and DB2 Database Administrator with complementary IMS DBA skills providing technical leadership in the design, deployment and on-going database support of an IBM Mainframe environment.

Essential tasks/responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership in the maintenance, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of z/OS based hardware/software solutions that will ensure optimum performance, availability and
recoverability.
Provide automated Database monitoring and reporting
Ensure recoverability of DB2 and IMS databases.
Ensure 24 x 7 availability of DB2 and IMS databases.
Plan and implement disaster recovery policies and procedures
Maintain database Best Practices and Procedures for DB2/IMS databases.
Assist application developers with DB2 design and SQL call issues.
Assist application developers with IMS design and DLI call issues.
Research new technologies and recommend appropriate applications at DUHS.
Provide System Programming support for both DB2 and IMS.

Ensure security of technology solutions:
Author, implement, execute, and periodically update System Security, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery Plans to be consistent with Duke Medicine policies and standards regarding security and HIPAA compliance.
Design, implement, maintain, upgrade, and patch systems to be compliant with Duke Medicine security policies and standards regarding protection from external and internal security attacks.
Administer, validate, and review user and system accounts, access controls, audit logs and system integrity to maximize system security and data confidentiality.
Research and remediate generic and system-specific vulnerabilities.
Provide administrative oversight to ensure security compliance.
Assess, review, and oversee system and process measures for managing and securing access to Duke systems.
Continually improve security processes and standards.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/training Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, math or a computer related field or equivalent technical training.

Experience Required:
7 years progressive experience in z/OS Systems Programming
Comprehensive knowledge of DB2. Ability to tune, design, and recover all aspects of an DB2 Subsystem.

Preferred:
Complimentary IMS and z/OS System Programming skill set is HIGHLY desirable.
Knowledge of BMC Recovery/Backup/Change Accum, Pointer Checker, SMPE, MVS, JES2, VTAM and TCPIP is HIGHLY desirable. Experience migrating to HALDB is desirable. REXX Scripting/programming experience is a plus.
