Senior Linux Systems Administrator

Job Description
Excellent problem solving skills, advanced hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
Experience with system or application administration for Web based applications or Web based COTS products.
Training or experience with Linux (Red Hat). Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL).
Ability to work in a team environment, communicating and coordinating work among other system administrators, software developers, systems engineering teams, management and customers. Must be able to manage multiple work tasks with periodic guidance/supervision and complete project work according to schedule.

Desired skills
Experience supporting Web based applications using technologies such as Java, HTML, XML will be useful.

Specific Job Description
Responsible for Unix Servers and the operating systems software and its successful integration with the hardware and applications software across the organization.
Plans, tests, installs, and integrates new and upgraded versions of the relevant operating systems on organizational computer systems, all third party software components, and subsystems.
Develops test plans and procedures.
Tests and integrates software and hardware.
Coordinates and conducts product installations, including patches.
Proactively monitors and manages system resources to optimize operating efficiency and performance.
Performs troubleshooting and diagnosing and correction of problems.
Writes scripts to automate system administrative tasks.
Maintains environment security and compliance.
Performs backups.
Performs system security administration functions, including creating customer accounts and managing.
Works with customer to plan for scheduled down time for maintenance reboots.

Standard Job Description
Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators.
Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space.
Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
