Summary of Position:
The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining the LAN and local WAN device operation infrastructure. This includes system upgrades, system documentation, daily administration and problem resolution as well as assisting staff and users in problem resolution, as needed, relating to hardware, software and communications issues. The Network Administrator will also participate in the design, planning and execution of infrastructure to support new applications and technologies.

The Network Administrator installs, configures, and maintains the organization's LAN software and servers and their interface into the Wide Area Network; acts as primary organizational interface with vendor and provides internal analysis and support; manages performance of a multiple hardware and software platform interface at the most complex level; maintains software and related information for corporate email system; provides problem solving assistance to local and remote PC support staff for complex problems; orders hardware and software as needed for requirements; provides (or arranges) training as necessary in the areas of PC hardware and software; assists in development and enforcement of corporate security standards.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


Maintain high availability of corporate LAN/WAN.


Maintain high availability of corporate email system.


Provide support to local and remote PC support staff for complex issues.


Identify outside resources needed to support LAN/WAN and coordinate communication with these resources.


Provide supervision to any assigned employees.


Evaluate and recommend new technology to management.


Maintain knowledge of current technology even if not in use at Milgard.


LAN and WAN daily administration, including system stability, integrity and troubleshooting


Perform departmental activities per standard operating procedures, MPS, and Philosophy.


Hardware and software upgrades to network servers, including operating systems and applications.


Rapid deployment of fixes to network devices in response to newly identified security threats.


Involvement with software and hardware upgrades, planning and roll out of desktop PC’s.


Budget evaluation, recommendation and purchasing for both software and hardware.


End user support.


Involved with software licensing tracking and purchasing.


Network backup integrity and recovery coordination along with disaster preparedness planning


Documentation of network systems, operational procedures, network topology, and hardware inventory


Level of Supervision:
Some supervision from Finance Manager and/or Corp IT Director; little supervision of day-to-day activity

Experience Required:
· Minimum 3 years AS/400 or DOS-based operations experience
· Minimum 5 years LAN administration experience in Novell Netware
·Strong experience with Dell enterprise servers, cabling systems,
hubs, and routers

Work Environment:
Office; some travel required which could be on short notice.
