Job Title:      Senior Network Architect

 

Job Grade:   T09                                         Supervisor’s Title: Director of Infrastructure

Position Summary:  This technical position is responsible for the architecture and design of AAMVA’s wide area network (WAN). This involves developing systems specifications and technical implementation plans, coordinating complex installation projects, researching and evaluating new technologies, and working with AAMVA colleagues to refine the strategic direction of AAMVA’s WAN infrastructure. The Senior Network Architect also advises AAMVA colleagues on network services solutions.  The Senior Network Architect will also manage enterprise level, multi-vendor projects.  The Senior Network Architect will also play a role in designing and maintaining AAMVA security infrastructure and data centers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

 

  1. Design and manage the rollout of critical network infrastructures to support AAMVAnet™ products and services, on both a strategic (long term) and tactical (immediate term) level.
  2. Perform analytical, technical and administrative work in the planning, design, installation and on-going administration of the AAMVAnet WAN and AAMVA data centers.
  3. Review, analyze, and maintain documentation for current WAN network infrastructure.
  4. Evaluate alternative technologies and architectures in relation to AAMVA’s infrastructure needs. Interface with management and vendors to develop and implement new solutions to meet business requirements.
  5. Provide technical expertise to Product Development staff. Assist Product Development in a backup role, when required.
  6. Serve on a 24x7 Tier 1 help desk for critical AAMVA infrastructure.
  7. Develop staff and customer training materials. Conduct staff and customer training and consultation.
  8. Act as a liaison to AAMVA technical committees.

Qualifications:

 

Formal Education:  Bachelor’s degree.
(Technical experience or certifications may be substituted for this requirement.)

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

 

 

Knowledge must include:

  • Network technologies such as TCP/IP, SNA, MPLS and Frame-Relay, as well as routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, etc.
  • Relationships between information processing systems and networks that support them.
  • Security technologies such as Firewalls, IPS/IDS, SSL, IPSEC, EAP, PEAP, etc.

 

Skills must include:

  • Project management and leadership.
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills.

 

Abilities must include:

  • Managing competing priorities, communicating among stakeholders, engaging resources as required and independently following tasks through to completion.
  • Regularly working outside of standard business hours.

 

Experience must include:

  • Five years of experience in telecommunications or enterprise-level networking.
  • CCNP or CCIE certification required (must be current).
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server products is not required, but highly desirable.
  • Experience with installing and configuring firewalls, IPSEC and SSL VPN’s, IDS/IPS is highly desired.
